It's the end of the school year and the countdown has begun...
Today and everyday I am reminded that not only am I in love with teaching the youth content but I'm in love with the time and effort I get to spend in changing scholars' lives daily.

How would you feel to find out that the leader of your school only cares about numbers and not that's in the best interest of the child(ren) that you've connected with and changed? What if data was just discussed and nothing was truly being done to close the deficits in the school, the teachers, or the children? Someone has to do something right?

In the representational stage of instruction, students are taught to use two-dimensional drawings (instead of the manipulatives from the concrete stage) to represent the same concepts.​​​​​​​​

The manipulations in the concrete and representational stages allow students to rationalize the conceptual mathematical procedures into logical steps and understandable definitions (Witzel, Riccomini, & Schneider, 2008). ​​​​​​​​

When students encounter a difficult mathematical problem, they are able to construct pictorial representations to assist in find the solution (Witzel, 2005).​​​​​​​​

Remember when you are teaching a standard for a set of skills it's important that you present all three methods to ensure you are meeting your child's needs.​​​​​​​​

Formative assessments, whether conducted in the classroom or in a tutoring session, provide the tutor with timely feedback on each student and allow for personalized instruction. ​​​​​​​​

The Reading Partners program monitors student progress using mid-year and end-of-year assessments and updates each student’s reading plan after the mid-year assessment.​​​​​​​​

For formative assessments to result in more student learning, tutors need time and support to review the assessment, as well as knowledge of how to address each student’s needs.​​​​​​​​
