This week's shout-out goes to the lovely Ms. Lopez. Ms. Lopez teaches targeted student groups at Cimarron. She thoughtfully plans lessons that meet each child where they are, supporting growth and learning. She creates lessons that balance academic progress with joy, ensuring every session is both productive and fun. The most important thing we have seen Ms. Lopez do during her time at Cimarron is strive to build strong connections.

During “Friendship Parties” last week, Ms. Lopez intentionally visited each of her students’ classrooms to share extra, special one-on-one moments with them. Showing them how important they are to her. Her dedication fosters strong connections and visible student growth across her groups.

Watch Em Work Wednesday - Mr. Oviedo at GPHS has implemented a full suite of classroom management strategies that create a respectful, predictable learning environment: class social contracts, clear and consistent routines, effective attention‑getters, and even classroom jobs in his secondary classroom. Yes — you heard that right: secondary classrooms can have classroom jobs too, and Mr. Oviedo uses them to give students meaningful responsibilities. These roles help students develop leadership skills and ownership as they complete tasks that support a positive classroom community. The result is a structured, student-centered classroom where expectations are clear and learners actively contribute to a supportive culture.

Frayer Friday - The Frayer Model is a great instructional strategy to support students’ acquisition of vocabulary by creating a graphic organizer of new words and using resource materials to examine for their definitions, characteristics, examples, and non-examples. In K–2, provide pre-filled templates with images. For example, for “habitat,” use pictures of a forest, desert, or ocean. For grades 3–5, have students write sentences using the vocabulary word in context, such as “ecosystem.” For 6th–12th graders, challenge students to apply the Frayer Model to complex terms with their own research.

January was National Mentoring Month — but great mentors deserve celebration year‑round! 🌟

This Watch Em Work Wednesday is a little different: let’s honor the people who walk alongside us, listen without judgment, and lift us up. Share a quick message with a mentor who made a difference, tag them, or pay it forward by mentoring someone else.

Who’s one mentor you’re grateful for? Drop their name (or a short story) below and let’s fill this feed with gratitude. 💬👇
