Hello friends😘! Such odd times ... trying to make the “new normal” seem more “normal”. I think having a Designated learning space, it doesn’t have to have a desk, maybe just a box of books and a box of supplies helps make the distinction between learning time ,(“home school”, as Iris likes to call it, family time & independent creative/exploratory time,AKA play time 🙂! I’ve always said, KIDS LEARN THE BEST THROUGH PLAY, but of course there’s still the need for age appropriate structure & instruction also. Trying to find that balance may be a challenge & is NOT 1 size fits all, & will take some trial & error. Iris does not like much TV,screen time... at all, so we’re not doing a lot of the EXCELLENT techno learning many of you are offering 😞, we just have to adjust to individual needs. That being said, she is getting tired of “all things video”so I won’t be doing much of that nor posting “school “, she says,” our teacher,( EXTROARDINAIRE Monica Donaldson), doesn’t do that !”
So in keeping with her preschool letter I week, I introduced the difference between countries, states & cities & then gave examples of some for each that start with I. (social studies).
We talked about our class per,( Trooper😂), being Irish & we ate ITALIAN food for dinner.
Creation station was puzzles which confirmed we need more 60 piece ones as she QUICKLY whipped up 48 piece & less ones.
Practiced writing capital & lower case I & continued in the book she is “authoring “😂.
For “Movement” we did ballet @ her ballet bar. She convinced me to try on my OLD Point shoes & do some point, I was really surprised they fit,(sort of😂).
We went in an “I” hunt for insects & Icky things & learned how a gecko we saw was alike & different from an IGuana.
We talked about Infection & germs but she does NOT want to watch Bill Nye Germ video because she “doesn’t like how he looks& germs are so gross!”(Science)
We made Icy treats & read I books, I highly recommend “I am Peace”...sooo right on in these unsettled days,weeks... good conversation starter too.
These are just a few ideas you can do with each letter of the week for other kids that don’t like “screen time.”
I know there’s a lot of great stuff out there but I’m not going to push looking at a screen on her. She did like the sloths on the live Houston Zoo today but made her want to go there, which I promised when this craziness ends. God bless you all & your families!!!
