Ending another great week at The National Building Archives, working with 3 more manufacturers who are trusting the NBA team with customer service questionnaires, scheduled maintenance documentation for mortgage and insurance documentation requirements hitting the real estate industry next year. The Roof Lab is a private research lab that tests many types of roofing systems and engineering standards.

Our research includes long term sustainability, energy efficiency analysis, legal analysis of manufacturers warranties and ongoing research for new products for consumers in the future.

We do not allow tours of the facility, nor do we share results with manufacturers.

We use the information gathered for the development of new products and produce patented products for which we license through specific manufacturers who sponsor our research.

Installing the perfect roof doesn’t work when your underground plumbing can hold back 16’ of water pressure. Time for a little underground plumbing line clean out.

Why doesn’t the color matched paint used by roofers last ? We’re noticing the paint only holds up for a few years, then fades to whatever this color is supposed to be. Finding sustainable solutions should be something every contractor should strive for.

When our supply chain sells roofing products that fail in 10 years or less, who’s to blame ? the supply houses looking for the cheapest product to make the most profit on ? or the roofer for not looking for the best solutions ?

Proof positive that a can of Flex seal and some spray paint doesn’t translate into “Qualified Roofer. Just because your roofer claimed to be “Certified” that only means he was able to fill out a form and swear to a manufacture that he’d only sell their products in order to offer customers worthless warranties. In the coming months, The Roof Lab will train contractors the chemistry, engineering and application aspects of the roofing industry.

Installing single use roofing systems are no different than a plastic water bottle. This industry can do better and will do better.

Everybody has their “Roofer Guy”, let’s just hope he knows better than to install the ridge dead flat on your roof.
