Our educators have experience working with a wide range of students, which means we are familiar with communication tools such as an AAC. We meet our students where they are and co-create strategies for them to feel confident.

It was a beautiful day at Bitty and Beau’s Coffee in Rice Village. Family and friends gathered to celebrate each employee. @bittyandbeauscoffee Houston’s Grand opening is next Saturday, January 14th! “Bitty and Beau’s was founded by the Wright family in honor of their two children Bitty and Beau, who have Down Syndrome. With over 80% of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities unemployed nationwide, Bitty and Beau’s Coffee creates a path for people with disabilities to become more values, accepted and included in every community.”

This weekend, Roots & Shoots in Houston Boots had our second full-day retreat, this time in to Galveston!

𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 We partnered with To clean-up a section of the beach and gathered a little over 2 lbs. in microplastics that are often over looked by beachgoers (but still dangerous to wildlife!) and over 100 nurdles!

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 After volunteering, members headed to Historic Powhattan House to learn about Galveston’s history, explore and amazing array of antiques and curiosities, and spend time connecting with one another!

𝗦𝗲𝗲•𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸•𝗪𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿
Our approach infuses Visible Thinking Routines into all activities. These strategies encourage observation, curiosity, wonder, and deeper thinking. Half-Day Enrichment uses Picture of the Week to practice these routines, with students and facilitators trying to use what they know and see to solve the week’s mystery.

Roots & Shoots in Houston Boots sorted and boxed 11 palettes (1,792 lbs.) of food this past Saturday. That’s 7,440 meals!

WINGS Collective has a social skills group starting this Saturday, September 18th. Led by a Speech and Language Pathologist and SPED teacher. Focuses on self-awareness, teamwork, collaboration. Sign up now! Only a couple of spots left!

We are thankful to still be able to serve our community during these unprecedented times. Roots & Shoots crew sorted and boxed books during our volunteering shifts at . Everyone enjoyed pursuing books and chatting with staff Lara and Julia while we sorted, but I think the most popular job was climbing inside the giant boxes of books!

The Roots And Shoots crew volunteered at by packaging food for families in need as part of the Backpack Buddies program. They served over 9,000 families!

We are revamping our Friday Half-Day Enrichment program! It will now include math (STEAM), reading, and social enrichment!

Recent events show us how important connections with others are important for learning. Our newest offering is a SELP group for children in grades K-2. This group focuses on building self-awareness and teamwork through hands-on activities and play.
