🌟 Welcome to Rice University, GCURS 2025 researchers!
We’re thrilled to host talented undergraduates nationwide presenting their research today at the Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium. This Rice tradition connects future scholars with graduate programs and faculty mentors.
“GCURS was one of my first experiences sharing my research beyond my home university,” said Dr. Samantha Yruegas, a CPRIT Scholar and the James and Deborah T. Godwin Assistant Professor of Chemistry. “That opportunity helped spark my passion for mentorship and diversity in science. I’m excited to see the next generation of researchers find their voice here at Rice.”

The Gulf Cost Undergraduate Research Symposium - not your average poster session.
Welcome to the Gulf Coast Undergraduate Research Symposium, one of the longest-running and most prestigious undergraduate research symposiums in the United States!
We hope you’ll join us virtually on Oct. 31 to present your original research discoveries to an audience of peers and faculty mentors!
Hosted annually by Rice University, GCURS provides current undergraduates the opportunity to present their original research discoveries to scholars from around the world. Not only does GCURS foster interdisciplinary, intercollegiate camaraderie, it offers an introduction to Houston, the fourth-largest and most diverse city in the nation.
GCURS is unique in many ways, but a significant one is that it is not a poster presentation. We believe the ability to explain your research to a diverse audience is an essential skill for all student researchers and prospective graduate students to master. GCURS was established to give undergraduate researchers in the southeast the opportunity to practice and to master that skill. Participants give 10-12 minute oral presentations on their original research or course project. After the presentation, they are coached by faculty and graduate student advisers and receive mentoring and feedback on their presentation skills and their work.
Fill out our interest form here. Applications open in August 2020.
