📢 ASL Zoom Social Update 📢

Unfortunately, it looks like I’m booked for the rest of the week! I honestly didn’t expect my schedule to fill up this quickly, but I was wrong. 😅

Because of this, Tuesday at 6:00 PM will be my last free ASL Zoom Social for now. We’ll be doing ASL Color Coded Zoom Social!

I’ll also be pausing my tutoring while I figure out what my schedule will look like at Gallaudet University. I’m taking six classes this semester, so I may need to pause both tutoring and Zoom socials for the entire semester.

I’ll keep everyone updated once I know what I’m able to do moving forward.

📢 IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT – FINAL WEEK OF TUTORING & ZOOM SOCIALS

Hello everyone!

This upcoming week will be my final week offering ASL tutoring and hosting Zoom social events for the time being.

I will be returning to Gallaudet University to finish my BAI degree. I will be taking six classes during both the fall and spring semesters, so I expect to have a very busy academic schedule. Because of this, I am not currently sure whether I will be able to continue offering tutoring or hosting regular Zoom events during the school year.

For my final week, I plan to host events on Tuesday and Thursday. I am hoping to offer both a game night and a social night on those days. I am still working out the details and will post the updated schedule on Sunday.

I want to sincerely thank everyone who has participated in my tutoring sessions, Zoom socials, and this community. I truly appreciate your support and participation!

If you are still looking for ASL tutoring, Renee should continue to have availability. Please be sure to check her schedule for available tutoring times.

I’m excited to announce that Renee Glanville has joined the SignForge ASL Tutoring Team!

Renee is Deaf, fluent in ASL, and brings her own experience and teaching style to our tutoring services. She will be working alongside me to provide additional support and more tutoring availability for our ASL students.

Just a reminder about the actual meaning of the word “deaf.”

The term deaf does not mean a person must hear absolutely nothing. A deaf person can have some residual hearing.

Hearing loss is measured in decibels (dB HL) on a hearing test—not as a simple percentage. A commonly used general guide is:

* Normal/near normal: 0–20 dB HL
* Mild hearing loss: 21–40 dB HL
* Moderate hearing loss: 41–55 dB HL
* Moderately severe: 56–70 dB HL
* Severe hearing loss: 71–90 dB HL
* Profound hearing loss: 91+ dB HL

Someone with severe or profound hearing loss may still be able to hear certain sounds, especially when they are loud enough. They do not have to hear absolutely nothing in order to be considered deaf.

So when you hear the word “deaf,” don't automatically assume it means 100% hearing loss or complete silence. Deaf people can have different amounts of residual hearing.
