A good book can open a door to just about anywhere.

On International Literacy Day, we’re celebrating something that happens in our classrooms every day: helping students discover the power and joy of reading.

Reading together builds much more than literacy skills. It sparks curiosity, introduces new ideas and perspectives, builds connections, and gives students the foundation they need to keep learning throughout their lives. And sometimes, there’s nothing better than simply gathering together and getting lost in a really good story.

Thank you to the educators across HASD who help our students become stronger, more confident readers, one page at a time.

And just like that, week one is in the books!

There were new routines to learn, classrooms to find, friends to reconnect with, names to remember, and plenty of excitement along the way. Most importantly, our schools are once again filled with the learning, laughter, relationships, and energy that make HASD such a special place.

Thank you to our students, staff, and families for helping us start the 2026-27 school year on such a positive note!

Tomorrow.

Backpacks will be packed. First-day outfits will be ready. Teachers will be waiting. And once again, our schools will be filled with the energy, curiosity, laughter, learning, and relationships that make them such special places.

Whether tomorrow marks a very first day at HASD, the beginning of senior year, or somewhere in between, a new year brings a fresh opportunity to learn, grow, connect, and find success.

Get some rest, Polar Bears. We’ll see you in the morning!

Just TWO days until school starts!

The night-before excitement is getting close, so this weekend is a great time to start easing back into those school-year routines.

Talk about what mornings will look like. Decide where backpacks and shoes will go. Make a plan for getting to school. And, especially for our younger Polar Bears, spend a little time talking about all the good things waiting for them when they arrive.

A new school year can bring plenty of excitement and a few butterflies, too. We’ll be ready to welcome students, help them settle in, and make HASD feel like home again.

Here we are again - with another new teacher welcome!

Meet Brian Niemuth, our newest Technology Education Teacher at Hortonville High School.

When we asked Brian what he is looking forward to most, his answer captured something pretty special about joining HASD: "Getting to work with incredible students every day and being a part of a school culture that supports its students and community."

Brian wraps up our introductions of some of the newest members of the HASD team. As we prepare to open our doors for another school year, we're excited for the talents, experiences, and passion each of our new staff members will bring to our students and schools.

To all of our newest Polar Bears: Welcome to HASD! We're so glad you're here.

THREE days to go, and it’s a good time for one more important back-to-school conversation: getting to and from school safely.

For our students who ride the bus, please take a few minutes as a family to review bus expectations. Waiting safely at the bus stop, following the driver’s directions, staying seated while the bus is moving, keeping aisles clear, and treating others with kindness all help make the ride safe and comfortable for everyone.

Our bus drivers carry some pretty important passengers each day. A little preparation at home helps everyone start and end the school day on the right foot.

Three more days, Polar Bears!
