This is a Thursday night ritual I could get behind! Tonight I’m preparing an individualized play-based Valentine number sense lesson because tomorrow I get to meet another new tiny human who has “rented me” so we can learn through play together! This friend loves arts and crafts and imaginative play, so while we work on things like one-to-one correspondence, cardinality, subitizing, and place value, we will also be making love potions, and creating a heart banner! I’ll then leave her with a whole Teaching Tote full of materials so she can continue learning through play for the next few weeks until I see her again!

Learning should be FUN and hands-on. Please reach out if you need help getting started with your at-home learning journey with your toddler, preschooler, or early school age homeschooler!

Excitedly prepping for my first “Rent a Teacher” session tomorrow with a sloth-loving beginning reader who enjoys sensory play and Nerf! Meeting your learner at the intersection of interest and the skill they are working on is the surest path to acquiring knowledge. As my favorite lady (Maria Montessori) said, “Follow the child, but follow him as his leader.”

Thank you to Hooksett Kiwanis for another great Hooksett Winter Carnival! I love taking part in this event every year and meeting up with all my local small business pals! Shout out to the Hooksett Builder’s Club for providing the sweet obstacle course in the hallway at Hooksett Memorial School today and for letting this big kid take a turn running through it!

Connection with other people, the use of hands-on materials, and being exposed to real-life experiences endure as the most effective tools for learning. The more tech that gets introduced into our children’s learning landscape, the more their cognitive capabilities are being negatively impacted. This simple fact has always been and will always be the reason I created Teaching Totes and continue to advocate for screen-free learning.

The “Holidays” Teaching Tote is back from its first rental of the season and is ready to head back out! Who wants it?

If you’ve never heard of Teaching Totes before, here’s the basic rundown: They are RENTAL curriculum kits full of everything you need to learn and play about a topic for two whole weeks. Just pick a theme of your child’s interest, arrange for pickup (or delivery for a small additional fee!), and when you’re done simply return it for a new one. This simplifies the process of providing a fun, educational environment at home while also helping you to facilitate toy rotation, keeping your children from getting bored with the toys, books, and materials they have at home!
