Two full-time childcare spots are opening up in April at Moss & Mud Nature Playschool in the Upper Valley off Hwy 35 near Sawtooth.

Two kiddos who have been a big part of our days here are moving, so this one feels a little bittersweet. This is a family I’ve really come to care about, and we’re also looking forward to new friends joining our small group.

We’ve built a really solid core group, creating a calm, connected environment where the kids know each other well and move through the day together. Our intention is to spend most of our time outside when weather allows, following the kids’ interests and learning through play and connection, very Reggio-inspired with lots of curiosity and mud.

Moss & Mud Update 🌿

The past 6 months at Moss & Mud have been full and busy in the best way.

After Moss & Mud Summer Camp 2025, I settled into caring for a core group of mostly 2–3 year olds while working with engineers and a design team to create plans for our future school, a full Reggio Emilia inspired school rooted in connection, play, nature, and community, and grounded in the belief that children are curious and capable learners.

The future school will serve up to 16 children with dedicated staff. As we near completion of the build, we will begin enrolling from our waitlist. Children currently enrolled in the home program will receive priority placement in the new school once it opens.

In the meantime, I’m operating out of my home as a Registered Family Child Care Provider, caring for a small group of children in a home setting. This allows me to truly know each child and family and offer intentional, individualized support throughout our days. In our small group, the days feel connected and grounded while being guided by the children’s rhythms and supported with intention.

I recently expanded from 3 days a week to 5 and am now welcoming additional children from ages 1-4 into our community as we continue to grow.

Full-time care is available, with flexibility depending on schedule and overall group fit.

🌿 Life at Moss and Mud is gloriously messy these days and we wouldn’t have it any other way! 💦☀️

This week, our little explorers have been:
💧 Splashing, laughing, and cooling off in the water play area
🧑‍🍳 Whipping up wild creations in the mud kitchen
🪴 Watering plants, pulling weeds, and checking daily for sprouts in the garden
🦋 Searching for bugs, collecting treasures, and creating nature stories
🌳 Running barefoot, climbing logs, and resting in the shade

Each day is rooted in connection, curiosity, and good old-fashioned play. These kids are thriving and so are we. 💚

I’m currently running a nature-focused summer camp while in the planning stages of opening Moss and Mud Nature Playschool, a Reggio-inspired, inclusive program rooted in play, nature, and community connection. Located just 15 minutes from downtown Hood River, the playschool will serve families across the Gorge.

At Moss and Mud, we believe mud puddles, roots, and messy hillsides are more than play, they’re opportunities for learning, resilience, and growth. Science shows outdoor play boosts brain development, lowers stress, and supports emotional regulation.
