It is with both appreciation and heavy hearts that we announce the conclusion of the Oregon State University (OSU) Extension Food Hero partnership with HRCSD elementary schools. After more than 20 years of successful collaboration, this program is scheduled to end on September 30, 2025, with the expiration of the federal SNAP Education funding that supported it.

Food Hero has introduced thousands of HRCSD elementary students to new foods through their popular cafeteria taste test program, creating a lasting, positive impact on student wellness and helping establish healthy habits.

We extend our sincere thanks to the OSU Extension team, who made this partnership such a success. As this chapter comes to a close, HRCSD remains committed to student wellness and will explore alternative opportunities to continue integrating healthy eating education into our school environment.

Today we’re celebrating the last day of an incredible year with our FoodCorps members, Grace Skakel and Bianca Prachyl!

Over the past year, Grace and Bianca have brought so much heart and energy to their work in our district. From building a school garden at Mid Valley Elementary 🌻, supporting student-led menu change projects with the May Street Elementary School Dragon Ambassadors🍴, and helping launch a new handmade enchilada that will be hitting cafeterias near you next school year! 🌮

Their positive presence has sparked real excitement and joy among students, and we are so grateful for the impact they have made in kitchens, classrooms, and gardens across our district.

Thank you, Grace and Bianca! 💚 Your work is planting seeds that will grow for years to come!

School was closed for students today, so the nutrition services department met for our annual continuing education. We covered topics like food safety and the nutrition standards so we can continue to grow and do our best to serve our students safe, healthy, and delicious meals. Thanks to all of these ladies who work so hard to support the students of HRCSD!
