๐ŸŒบ I Have a Question ๐ŸŒบ
Why Is Witnessing to Family So Difficult?
Have you ever noticed that sometimes it seems easier to talk about Jesus with a complete stranger than with someone you have known and loved for years?

Why is that?

Maybe we've already shared our faith with them, and we don't want to keep bringing it up because we're afraid of becoming pushy.

Maybe it's because they know us so well. They know our history. They've seen our mistakes, our struggles, and probably some moments when we didn't look very much like Jesus at all.

Or maybe they look at our lives and simply don't see what we see.

The world has its own way of measuring whether someone is doing well. Health. Financial security. A good job. A comfortable home. Plans that seem to be working out.

Someone we love might look at our circumstances and think, โ€œMy life is going pretty well. Why do I need what they have?โ€

But when we look at our own lives, we see something different.

We see doors God opened when there seemed to be no way forward. We see provision when we needed it, prayers answered in unexpected ways, and peace in circumstances that should have overwhelmed us.

Our testimony isn't that following Jesus has made our lives perfect. Our testimony is that God has been faithful.

Jesus said:

โ€œA prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.โ€
โ€” Mark 6:4 NKJV

Familiarity can make it difficult for someone to see beyond the person they have always known.

So what do we do?

Do we keep telling them about Jesus every chance we get? Do we back away because we've already said it once? Or is there a time when our greatest witness isn't another conversation at all?

The Bible tells us:

โ€œAnd always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you...โ€
โ€” 1 Peter 3:15 NKJV

I love that phrase:

โ€œthe hope that is in you.โ€

Sometimes the people closest to us may have already heard what we believe. Perhaps now they need to see it lived outโ€”in how we respond when things don't go our way, how we treat people who hurt us, whether we forgive, and whether we still trust God when the answer isn't what we wanted.

The people closest to us don't just hear our words.

They see our lives.

That doesn't mean we stop speaking about Jesus. We should always be ready when God gives us an opportunity.

But we also need to remember:

We cannot do the Holy Spirit's job.

Sometimes, because we love someone so much and desperately want them to know Jesus, we can try too hard to make something happen. We may keep talking when it is time to listen, or keep pushing when it is time to pray.

And in our desire to help, we may actually muddy the water, making it harder for that person to recognize what the Holy Spirit is doing in their own heart.

There is a difference between being available for God to use and trying to make something happen for God.

So maybe instead of asking, โ€œWhat else can I say to make them believe?โ€ we need to ask:

โ€œAm I faithfully doing what God has asked me to doโ€”and trusting Him to do what only He can doโ€”or am I trying to do the Holy Spirit's job?โ€

When it is someone we deeply love, that can be difficult. We want them to know Jesus now.

But we cannot change someone's heart.

We can share the Gospel. We can love them. We can live our faith in front of them. We can pray. And when God opens the door, we can speak.

Then we trust the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do.

The people closest to us may be the hardest people to witness to, but they also have a front-row seat to our lives.

May what they see in us point them toward Jesus.

I Have a Question:
Why Is Witnessing to Family So Difficult?

And when words aren't enough...

Are we willing to love, live, prayโ€”and trust God with the rest?

Mouth of the Cave

๐Ÿ“– 1 Kings 19:9 (NLT)
โ€œThere he came to a cave, where he spent the night. But the Lord said to him, โ€˜What are you doing here, Elijah?โ€™โ€

And then the reflection:

Mouth of the Cave
There are seasons in life when we retreat into quiet places โ€” moments of exhaustion, uncertainty, grief, or deep reflection. Like Elijah, we sometimes find ourselves standing in the shadows, wondering where God is leading us next.

Yet even in the cave, God was present.

The crashing waves outside the entrance remind us that life continues to move around us, but God often speaks most clearly in stillness. Not through fear or chaos, but through His gentle voice calling us closer.

Sometimes the cave is not a place of abandonment, but a place of preparation. A place where God restores our hearts, renews our strength, and reminds us that we are never alone.

Even in hidden places, His presence remains.
