I had such a fun morning teaching Torts to a very engaging class of undergraduate pre-law students at Nova Southeastern University! Tonight, I am on to my alma mater FAU (for my Master in Forensic Accounting) to speak to the Women's Pre-Law Society. I am loving teaching mode.

After more than two decades practicing law — including serving on the legal team in the Champlain Towers South (Surfside) litigation — I’ve seen how high the stakes are in our profession.
But here’s what many incoming students don’t anticipate:
1L is demanding because the rules of engagement are different.
Today, I’m officially announcing Law School Boot Camp — a small, high-touch summer readiness program designed to prepare incoming 1Ls before classes begin.
Our first cohort begins in May 2026.
We focus on:
• How law school exams actually work
• The structure behind legal analysis
• Repeatable study systems under pressure
I’ll be at Florida State University this Thursday (the 26th at the Student Union 9-3) sharing more about the program and connecting with students and alumni.
With law school costs approaching $200,000 — and national data showing roughly 4–5% of students leave after the first year — preparation matters.
My cohorts are intentionally limited to six students to ensure personalized feedback.
If you’re starting law school this fall, comment “1L” and I’ll send you a free guide:
“What to Know About the Differences Between Undergrad and 1L.”
If you know an incoming 1L (or a family navigating this step), please feel free to share this post.

I remember how overwhelming the first weeks felt — dense cases, tight deadlines, and a new way of thinking. Use a planner, read actively, outline as you go, and practice past exams. Prioritize tasks, break readings into chunks, and take short restorative breaks. Build your legal writing and research skills by writing summaries, mastering citation, and using library databases. Join study groups, attend office hours, and tap career services and writing centers for feedback.
If you’re a newly admitted student, these practical habits will help you move from surviving to thriving. Want a structured plan and small-group support led by an AV Preeminent-rated attorney?
