🐝🌼 June was National Pollinator Month! 🌼🦋

The Marshall County Extension Office is proud of our Marshall County Master Gardeners for helping educate the next generation about the important role pollinators play in our environment.

Recently, several of our Master Gardeners visited the Byhalia Library, where they shared fun and engaging lessons about pollinators with local youth. The program concluded with a beautiful butterfly release, giving participants a firsthand look at one of nature's most incredible pollinators.

Pollinators like butterflies, bees, hummingbirds, and other beneficial insects are essential for healthy gardens, farms, and ecosystems. By planting pollinator-friendly flowers and protecting their habitats, we can all do our part to help these important species thrive.

A big thank you to the Byhalia Library for hosting this wonderful event and to our dedicated Master Gardeners for sharing their time and knowledge with our community!

With summer heat having arrived, it’s officially Coreopsis tinctoria (plains coreopsis) season! Currently in bloom and easy to spot along our highways, this is one our favorite native annual wildflowers in Marshall County.

🐝🌼 June is National Pollinator Month! 🌼🐝

Pollinators play a vital role in our environment by helping plants reproduce and supporting the production of many of the fruits, vegetables, and flowers we enjoy every day.

Recently, some of our Marshall County Master Gardeners were spotted at the Byhalia Public Library sharing their knowledge and love of pollinators with local children and families! Through story time, hands-on activities, and fun discussions, they taught about the important work of bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators and how we can all help protect them.

Want to support pollinators at home? Consider planting native flowers, reducing pesticide use, and creating habitats that provide food and shelter throughout the year.

A big thank you to our dedicated Marshall County Master Gardeners for educating and inspiring the next generation of gardeners and environmental stewards! 💚🌻🦋

Have you spotted any pollinators in your garden lately? Share your photos in the comments!

While we’re saddened the park was unable to open for this years annual firefly tours, we’re looking forward to more guided hikes and programs in partnership with the wonderful Wall Doxey mangers when the park fully reopens.
We had over 54 species, including: yellow-billed cuckoo; eastern wood peewee; eastern phoebe; Acadian and great crested flycatcher; eastern kingbird, white-eyed, red-eyed, yellow-throated, and Philadelphia vireo; blue-gray gnatcatcher; orchard and Baltimore oriole; worm-eating, Prothonotary, northern yellow, Swainson’s, Tennessee, Kentucky, hooded, pine, blackpoll, and yellow-throated warbler; northern parula; summer tanager; eastern bluebird; grey catbird; brown thrasher; northern rough-winged, barn, and cliff swallow; pileated, red-headed, and red-bellied woodpecker; northern flicker and more.
