🍽️ If your kid won’t even sit at the table when there’s new food on it, this is for you. 🫵🏽

I’m a dad. My son is autistic. For a long time, dinner felt like a battle nobody was winning.
Then we found this. 👇

The 6 Steps to Eating. A sensory-friendly framework (the SOS Approach by Dr. Kay Toomey) that changed our whole routine.🤗

1️⃣ Tolerating. Being in the same room as the food.
2️⃣ Interacting. Helping prep, stir, pour.
3️⃣ Smelling. Leaning in close.
4️⃣ Touching. Fingertips, then lips, then tongue tip.
5️⃣ Tasting. Lick. Bite. Spit. Chew. Repeat.
6️⃣ Eating. The whole thing.

You don’t skip steps. You don’t rush. You meet your kid where they are.

The first time he chewed and swallowed something new on his own, I cried in the kitchen. Then I made him another one and pretended I was fine. 😅

This is Empowered Designed Learning at the dinner table. Every step intentional. Nothing accidental. 🎯

Optimism Is a Skill, Not a Personality Type

What is your BPS Best Possible Self
✅ Be curious. 
✅ Be creative. 
✅ Be brave. 
✅ Be yourself.
✅ Add something to this world that nobody else could add. ✨

We say this to our students every year. Then we walk into our own classrooms and play it safe.

Here is the truth I keep coming back to after 30+ years in education:
☑️ The lesson is the only one you could design. 👩🏽‍🎨
☑️ The story only you could tell. 📓
☑️ The energy only you could bring on a Monday morning. ⚡️

That is the thing your students actually need 🙌🏽

Not another copy of someone else’s slide deck. 💻 Not another worksheet pulled from a search. 🔍 You. 🫵🏽 Your curiosity. 🧐 Your culture. 🧫 Your creative fingerprint. 🫆

What a day at the EdTech for Student Success Summit in Santa Cruz! 🌊

Honored to join educators, district leaders, students, and EdTech partners at Santa Cruz COE for a full afternoon of real talk about what's actually working in classrooms. From hands-on vendor showcases to honest panel conversations, we covered student engagement, AI in education, rollout lessons learned, and what the future of EdTech might actually look like. The questions were sharp, the perspectives were grounded, and the energy in the room reminded me why this work matters. Big thanks to SCCOE and Santa Cruz COE for putting together an event built for practitioners, not just presenters. More conversations like this, please. 👏

Last Friday was a full heart kind of day. 🧡

Adobe HOLA and BEN networks had the honor of welcoming students from San Jose State University’s Braven Program for a real conversation about careers, creativity, AI skills, and everything in between.

They asked the hard questions. We kept it real. And honestly? They reminded US why we never stop growing.
