Everyone you meet is silently dealing with something. Something behind the scenes. Something physical, or mental, or spiritual. We’ve all got something we’re silently carrying. All of us.
One of mine is EDS, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.
Until I knew this was a real thing I was silently dealing with all the symptoms, and there are many. My biggest ones are extremely lax/ unstable joints due to loose connective tissue, chronic overall pain with fatigue, and major red face when I do cardio 😂
I’ll tell you others lessons I’ve learned living with this later, but back to the red face…
My entire life I’ve been athletic, since the age of 3 till now I’ve ALWAYS had a constant variety of movement practices…. ballet, Yoga, Pilates, weight training, sports, martial arts, dance, running, hiking, swimming…and so much more.
And in EVERY single one of them I’ve encountered the red face. 😂
When I played on the basketball team they stopped a game once to check on me! 👹
When I took a Zumba class the teacher stopped the class and asked on the mic if I was ok! 😭
And this pic is me today after doing 20 minutes on the Stair Climber, after a cold shower and a cold press. I’ll stay red for awhile. My cardio is good, it’s just that I will turn red when I’m working hard.
My symptoms used to make me feel weak and that there was something wrong with my body.
Now I rock it! I trust myself to monitor my edge. I know how to slowly build so that it’s more manageable. And I just simply rock the red!
The symptom hasn’t gone away, but my resistance and anger and embarrassment about it has.
One of my greatest gifts from having this body is that I use this wisdom to help others. I guide them in shifting the relationship they have with their body.
