Beginning segment
Represents the difference places where our performers that are Afakasi with Tongan Bloodline are from.

Illima Tuiono (family line Tuiono, Mu'a, Tonga from her Father, & Vava'u,
Fua motu, Talau Tonga from Katalina her Mother’s side /Grandfather Tom Tonga line) Soana Pahulu family line of her Father's line Ha'apai and NukuAlofa ) Virgo. Lehua. Rita Taula (family line Tonga, Grandfather Tom Tonga line Fua motu & Vava'u) Song choice of the evening is composed by Soane Tatuila Pusiaki, the son of the Famous Punake Vili Pusiaki, Vai Ko Fakalavelave placed in Lapaha, Tonga.

Choice of Song and Meaning: Resonate, reflects the spirit and importance of building — building a strong foundation for our people here in the Midwest. As Pacific Islanders living in the United States, many of us do not often have the opportunity to travel back to our Motherland.

For me personally, this journey has been an opportunity to learn, reconnect, and gain a deeper appreciation for the cultural knowledge, traditions, and values that continue to live through our people. It has reminded me of the importance of staying connected to the resources, teachings, and communities that preserve our heritage and identity.

Above all, this experience serves as a reminder to remain humble, open-minded, and teachable as we continue to grow together and carry our culture forward.

Learning about Tonga requires a deep level of study, understanding, and respect. As the last remaining monarchy in the Pacific Islands, Tonga holds a unique cultural and historical significance that continues to shape its traditions and identity today.

While dance may appear effortless and entertaining, there is far more meaning behind each performance. Understanding where a song originated, the life and experiences of the composer, and the inspiration behind the lyrics brings a deeper appreciation to the art form. The movements and choreography are only one part of the beauty — the true essence lies within the history, storytelling, and cultural values being expressed.

Through this experience, I continue to value the importance of learning with humility, honoring the origins of our traditions, and appreciating the responsibility of preserving and sharing our culture with authenticity and respect.

Music remixes aren't always a favorite to generation before but, it's a perfect way of connecting what was old for our children today.
