Exciting news for Rebel Nation! Highland High School has been nationally recognized as one of the Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report!

Nearly 18,000 public high schools across the country were included in the rankings, which are based on performance on state-required tests, graduation rates, and how well schools prepare students for college.

Highland High School ranked better than 40% of public high schools nationally and was ranked #32 among public high schools in the state of Arkansas!

Our staff is committed to providing high-quality instruction, supporting every student, and creating opportunities that prepare our students for success beyond high school. This recognition is a testament to those commitments and to the hard work of our students, teachers, staff, families, and entire school community.

A huge thank you to Bill's Cash Saver in Hardy for generously donating bottled water to our Transportation Department!

With temperatures steadily in the triple digits, our district has extra steps to help keep our students and drivers safe and comfortable. Coolers have been stocked with bottled water, cooling towels are available on all bus routes and transportation vehicles, and our non-air-conditioned buses travel with the windows down to help circulate air during these hotter days.

📢 School Board Meeting Time Change

The regularly scheduled August meeting of the Highland School District Board of Education on Tuesday, August 18, will begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Central Office Building, rather than the regularly scheduled meeting time.

This change has been made to accommodate the Back-to-School Bash/football scrimmage scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

🚸 School Starts Tomorrow – Let's Keep Our Rebels Safe! ❤️🩶

As students return to school, we ask everyone to help make the start of the year a safe one by keeping these important reminders in mind:

🛑 Flashing Red. Kids Ahead. Stop for School Buses. When you see flashing school zone lights, slow down and stay alert. And remember—Arkansas law requires drivers to stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended. This applies to traffic traveling in both directions, unless the roadway is divided by a physical median or barrier. Never pass a stopped school bus while students are loading or unloading.

🚗 Be Patient. With the start of school comes increased traffic on our roads, especially during arrival and dismissal. Please allow yourself a little extra travel time, be courteous to other drivers, and be patient with parents, school buses, and student drivers as everyone adjusts to the new school routine.

📵 Drive Distraction-Free. Put the phone down, keep your eyes on the road, and watch for children, buses, crossing pedestrians, and increased traffic around our schools.

⚠️ School Zone Information (Hwy. 62/412)
Our school zone is in effect every school day:
🕢 7:20–8:10 a.m.
🕒 3:00–3:40 p.m.

During these times, the speed limit is 25 MPH for the safety of our students, families, and staff.

The school zone is marked by flashing lights and extends from Mike Watson State Farm on one end to St. Bernards Healthcare Clinic on the other along Highway 62/412.

Thank You for Supporting Rowdy's House!

A heartfelt thank you to Light in the Wilderness Church of Ash Flat and Pastors Stan & DeAnna Jones for their recent monetary donation and generous supply donation to Rowdy's House, Highland School District's clothing and resource room.

Because of the support of community partners like you, we're able to keep Rowdy's House stocked with clothing, shoes, backpacks, hygiene products, and other essential items that help meet the needs of our students and contribute to their overall success and well-being. These resources are distributed to students across the district whenever a need arises.

Would you like to help support Rowdy's House?

Our current needs include:
• Hygiene products
• Boys' tennis shoes (youth through adult sizes)
• Coats (youth through adult sizes)
• Pants (easy pull-on styles, youth through adult sizes)
• Shirts (short- or long-sleeve, youth through adult sizes)

Donations may be dropped off at the Highland School District Central Office (1627 Hwy. 62/412, Hardy) on school days between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Thank You, First Baptist Church of Cherokee Village!

A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful members of First Baptist Church of Cherokee Village for treating our Highland School District staff to another delicious meal today!

As always, they prepared a fantastic homestyle lunch complete with some amazing desserts that our staff thoroughly enjoyed. We are incredibly grateful for the time, effort, and generosity that went into serving our team.

More importantly, we appreciate the church's continued support and encouragement for our staff and students as we begin a new school year. Partnerships like these remind us how fortunate we are to have a community that believes in and invests in the success of our schools.

🐴 Meet Willie!

We're excited to introduce Willie, the newest addition to the Highland School District's School-Based Mental Health Equine Therapy Program!

Willie was generously donated by Miss Katie Clay-Thomas and will work alongside our trained mental health professionals during both individual and group therapy sessions on campus. He has already settled in nicely with the rest of the herd and is looking forward to helping support our students throughout the school year.

If you believe your child could benefit from our equine-assisted mental health therapy program, please contact our School-Based Mental Health Director, Mr. Ben Cravens, at [email protected] for more information.

🐎 A Friendly Reminder: We know it's tempting to stop and visit our therapy animals as they graze in the pasture, but we kindly ask that you do not feed them treats or other food. Rest assured—they are well cared for and receive plenty of feed, treats, and love from our staff!

💉 Back-to-School Health Reminders from Our Highland School District Nurses

As we prepare for a great 2026-2027 school year, here are a few important reminders for our families:

✅ Required Immunizations
Students who are 11 years old and 16 years old are required to receive additional vaccinations to attend school. Please contact your child's primary care provider or your local health unit to schedule an appointment if needed.

📋 Updated Immunization Records
After your child receives any required vaccinations, please provide an updated immunization record to your child's building nurse.

💊 Student Medications
If your child will need to take medication during the school day, please bring the medication in its original prescription or manufacturer's container and meet with the school nurse during Open House to complete the necessary paperwork.

📄 Immunization Exemptions
If your child has an approved immunization exemption, please provide the appropriate documentation to your child's school before the start of the school year.
