Happy Grandparents Day ❤️🤍💙

Today is a special day to celebrate the grandparents who love our MT students, encourage them, cheer them on, share their wisdom and help shape the people they are becoming!

But did you know that National Grandparents Day has its roots right here in Fayette County, West Virginia?!

Marian McQuade of Oak Hill began advocating for a special day to honor grandparents more than 50 years ago. She saw the importance of keeping generations connected and making sure grandparents knew they were valued. Her idea grew from a West Virginia effort into a national movement. In 1973, West Virginia became the first state to officially recognize Grandparents Day, and in 1978 President Jimmy Carter signed legislation establishing National Grandparents Day across the country as the first Sunday after Labor Day. ❤️ That connection to our county makes celebrating this day just a little more special.

Earlier this week, we had the privilege of welcoming grandparents into the school for our first ever Goodies with Grandparents event. Looking through these pictures, you can see exactly what Marian McQuade understood all those years ago; there is something incredibly special about bringing generations together and we hope that this is the first of many more to come.

Thank you to every grandparent who joined us and to all the grandparents (or those who fill that very important role) who couldn't be there but are an important part of our students' lives every day. We loved having you at Midland Trail, and we hope this is only the beginning of more opportunities to bring our students, families and community together.

Happy Grandparents Day from Midland Trail PTO! ❤️🤍💙

📣 Our first PTO meeting of the year is this Wednesday!

Whether you’ve been involved with PTO for years or you’re simply curious about what we do, we’d love to have you join us!

We’ll be kicking off the 2026–2027 school year by talking about what’s ahead, sharing some of the projects and events we’re working on, and most importantly hearing about how PTO can continue supporting our students, families, teachers and staff.

This is also a great opportunity to stop in and see our new MT Library & Coffee Shop area and hear about some of the work that has been happening behind the scenes! 📚☕️

📅 Wednesday, August 26
⏰ 5:00–6:30 PM
📍 New MT Library/Coffee Shop in the cafeteria
🍿 Light refreshments will be provided

You don’t have to commit to volunteering at every event and you definitely don’t have to know anything about PTO before coming to a meeting. Parents, grandparents, guardians, and staff are all welcome. If you care about students, come and join us!

Bring your ideas, your questions, or just come listen and see what we’re about.

❤️🤍💙 We hope to see you Wednesday!
