What if your next career is in a school?

When you think about working in education, you probably think of only teachers. But schools need teachers plus all kinds of other workers to help students learn, grow and succeed.

Join us for the Education Career Expo on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Patton High School and discover what a career in education could look like for you or your student.

Middle and high school students: Get a look at career paths that could start now and continue through college.

College students: Learn about pathways into teaching and other careers in schools.

Adults: Explore meaningful career opportunities, including current job openings, whether you’re considering a career change or looking for a way to make a difference in your community.

You’ll hear from leaders in education, learn about different pathways into the field and have the chance to talk one-on-one with people who can help you figure out where you might fit.

🍔 Free cheeseburger meal starts at 4:30 p.m.

🎤 Keynote speaker: Charles Williams, principal of Draughn High School, at 5:30 p.m.

Then, explore information booths featuring specific education career opportunities, programs and current job openings.

Bus Transportation Information flyer for Ray Childers Elementary for the 2026–2027 school year. Families should complete the Bus Transportation Form if their child is a new bus rider, the family has moved to a new address, or the child is a rising kindergarten student attending Ray Childers Elementary. Families do not need to complete the form if their child rode a Ray Childers bus last school year and there are no transportation changes. Completing the form helps provide the correct bus number, pickup location, and drop-off information at Open House. Questions may be directed to Ms. Kanupp. Complete the form at tinyurl.com/37fpcd86. BCPS will host our annual high school football JAMBOREE on Friday at Patton High School. First scrimmage kicks off at 6:30 p.m. In addition to the action on the field, community agencies will set up information booths started at 6 p.m. Admission is $10. No passes will be accepted. Those 10 and under get in for free. Please note we will follow our safe gate entry procedures with only clear bags allowed and walk-through metal detectors in place. Let's get ready for some football!

Ray Childers Elementary School Families: The 2026–2027 Technology Device Rental Fee can be paid online through MySchoolBucks. If you do not already have an account, visit myschoolbucks.com to create one. Once your account is set up, add your student(s) and submit the technology device rental fee. Please note that online payment is available for one or two students only. Families paying for more than two students must make their payment in person. This rental fee is not device insurance. From our friends at the Burke County Health Department: Burke County Public Health, located at 700 E. Parker Road, Morganton, provides recommended childhood and adolescent immunizations to help students start the school year protected and ready to learn. Vaccines available include DTaP, Tdap, Meningococcal, Meningococcal B, HPV, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, MMR, Polio, Varicella (chickenpox), Hib, Prevnar (pneumococcal), Rotavirus (RotaTeq), and combination vaccines including Pentacel and Vaxelis. Appointments are required for all immunizations, and patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at the time of their visit. To schedule an appointment or learn more, call (828) 764-9150.

Burke County Public Health accepts a variety of insurance plans, including Aetna, Medicaid, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, NC State Health Plan, Surest, UnitedHealthcare (UHC), Ambetter, AmeriHealth Caritas NC, Carolina Complete Health, Healthy Blue, Humana, Partners Health, Vaya Health, WellCare, MPE Medicaid Presumptive Eligibility, and TRICARE.
