Why Does God Allow Suffering?

God does not delight in suffering, but He allows it because we live in a fallen world where sin has broken creation (Romans 5:12). Suffering reminds us of our need for Him and draws us closer to His presence (Psalm 34:18). It shapes our character, teaching us patience, humility, and dependence on His grace (2 Corinthians 12:9–10, James 1:2–4).

Most importantly, suffering is not meaningless — God promises to redeem it and work all things together for good to those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Through trials, we can experience His comfort, share in Christ’s sufferings (Philippians 3:10), and reflect His hope to a hurting world.

In the end, suffering points us toward eternity, where God will wipe away every tear and suffering will be no more (Revelation 21:4).

Public tragedy shakes us in a unique way.

Many of us are still grieving after Charlie Kirk’s sudden death, not only the loss of a bold Christian voice, but the shock of watching it unfold before the world.

When grief is this heavy, we need to anchor ourselves in Christ.

Leaders, nations, and movements rise and fall, but “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)

How to Cope Spiritually When You’ve Seen Something Traumatic

These last few days have been heavy.

Many of us have seen videos and images we wish we could unsee.

Watching Charlie Kirk’s death and the tragic stabbing of 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska on a train in North Carolina has left so many in shock.

I’ll be honest, my own heart has been broken, and I know I’m not the only one replaying what I saw.

If you’re struggling too, please hear me: you’re not alone.

God sees you.

He knows the weight you’re carrying.

And He’s close to you in the middle of it.

Scriptures I’m Holding Onto Right Now:
1. Psalm 34:18 — The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.
2. Isaiah 26:3 — God keeps in perfect peace those whose minds stay on Him.
3. Philippians 4:8 — Fix your thoughts on what is true, pure, and lovely.

What’s Helping Me Cope Spiritually:
1. Stop the Replay — Every time I want to rewatch, I stop and remind myself it won’t bring peace.
2. Speak God’s Word — When the images pop back in my head, I cover them with Scripture.
3. Bring It to Prayer — I’ve told God everything I felt, fear, sadness, even anger. He can handle it.
4. Stay Connected — Talking with others who are processing too reminds me I don’t have to carry this by myself.
5. Fix My Eyes Higher — This world is broken, but Christ’s kingdom cannot be shaken. That truth steadies me.

You don’t have to carry these images or this grief on your own.

Christ sees your tears, feels your pain, and promises peace that doesn’t make sense to the world.
