“Our family’s journey to Digital Academy of Florida began because we knew our son deserved better. Before enrolling at DAOF, Joey attended a traditional public school where we knew something wasn’t right. He is an intelligent, kind, and curious child, but he was struggling, and no one could tell us why.
We enrolled Joey at Digital Academy of Florida near the end of the school year. Even with only a short time remaining that year, we immediately noticed a difference. People listened. They asked questions. We no longer felt like our concerns were being ignored.
Within about two weeks, the process of evaluating Joey for an Individualized Education Program (IEP) was already underway. For the first time, educators wanted to understand why Joey was struggling instead of expecting him to simply try harder. We finally felt like we had a team that truly saw our son and wanted him to succeed.
Today, Joey has the supports he needs to access his education while continuing to be challenged academically. Those supports have allowed him to build confidence, become more independent, and demonstrate what he is capable of. He has earned Straight A Honor Roll and genuinely enjoys learning again.
As Joey’s Learning Coach, I’ve found more than a school. I’ve found a community that values families as partners. Our voices matter, our concerns are heard, and we work together to help Joey succeed. That partnership inspired me to serve on our School Advisory Council because I want every family to experience the same support we found. One of the greatest lessons our family has learned is that there is nothing shameful about an IEP. It doesn’t define a child’s potential. It simply gives a child access to the tools they need to succeed.
Today, Joey is thriving academically, growing in confidence, and genuinely enjoys learning. Digital Academy of Florida didn’t just give him a different place to attend school. They gave him the opportunity to be seen, to be understood, and to believe in himself. For our family, that has made all the difference.”
