DUI checkpoints, also known as sobriety checkpoints, are legal in Georgia—but they must follow specific legal requirements to be constitutional.
They must be planned & approved. A supervising officer must approve and oversee the checkpoint. The primary goal must be to ensure roadway safety, not general law enforcement. Officers cannot randomly pick vehicles; they must use a predetermined system (e.g., stopping every third car). The checkpoint must be clearly marked with police presence and lights. Officers can briefly question drivers, but detentions should be short unless there is reasonable suspicion.
While you must stop at a checkpoint, you are not required to answer questions beyond providing your license, registration, and proof of insurance. If an officer suspects impairment, they may request field sobriety tests.
All of this is supported by the SCOTUS although the stops do not fit into either of the Tiers of contacts. However, they are reasonable in scope and minimal in time.

Covered the legal issues and then time on the range. Introduced a couple of new shooters to the techniques and taught a few old dogs some new tricks.
