🌿 Part-Time Learning Assistant

Tuckahoe Learning Grove | Henrico, VA

Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays | 9:00 AM–12:00 PM
9 hours/week | Starting at $15/hour
Must be 16+

Tuckahoe Learning Grove is a small, mixed-age learning community for children ages 4–8, and we’re looking for a kind, dependable Learning Assistant to join us three mornings a week.

This position is especially well-suited for a homeschooled high school student (age 16+) looking for meaningful, consistent part-time work during weekday mornings. If you enjoy younger children, are responsible and patient, and like the idea of gaining hands-on experience in a unique learning environment, we’d love to hear from you!

What you'll do:
Support students during independent work and activities
Read with and assist children as needed
Help students find materials, get started, and stay on task
Play and interact with students during outdoor time
Help supervise the playground and classroom transitions
Accompany students inside when needed
Assist with simple classroom setup and cleanup
Be an extra set of caring, capable hands throughout our morning

This is a support role, not a teaching position. You will not be responsible for lesson planning, grading, preparing work at home, or independently teaching the class.

You might be a great fit if you:
Genuinely enjoy being around younger children
Are dependable and able to arrive consistently and on time
Are patient, positive, and comfortable helping kids solve little problems
Can take initiative and notice when someone needs help
Don't mind getting on the floor to build something, reading a picture book, or heading outside to play
Are willing to learn — no previous teaching experience is required!

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in education, child development, or working with children, as well as a teen simply looking for a meaningful first job with consistent hours.

TLG mornings start gently; we usually do a STEM/fine motor-based activity to warm up our bodies and minds. New this year are collaborative morning tubs; students have the option of working independently or with a partner on activities that strengthen fine motor skills while developing critical thinking and communication.

🌿 We're Building Something New at TLG... and We'd Love Your Help! 📚

This year, we're launching something I'm incredibly excited about called Story Studio—a literacy experience built around beautiful children's literature, hands-on exploration, creativity, writing, and meaningful conversations.

Instead of rushing through dozens of books, we'll spend time living inside each story through art, nature, science, writing, dramatic play, and discovery.

I'm slowly building our Story Studio library, and if you have gently loved children's books collecting dust on a shelf, we'd be so grateful for donations!

📖 Some of the books we'll definitely be using include:
The Dot
Apple Countdown
The Leaf Thief
Pumpkin Jack
Bear Says Thanks
Over and Under the Snow
The Snowy Day
Owl Moon
Ordinary Mary's Extraordinary Deed
The Tiny Seed
The Honeybee
Because of an Acorn
Miss Rumphius
Bird Builds a Nest

We're also looking for books that fit themes like:

🌱 Plant life cycles & gardens
🍎 Apples, pumpkins & fall harvest
🍂 Seasons & changing nature
❄️ Winter & snow
🦉 Forest animals & habitats
🐝 Bees, birds & pollinators
🌳 Trees, ecosystems & caring for nature
❤️ Kindness, gratitude & community
🎨 Creativity, courage & growth mindset
🌎 Stewardship & making the world a better place

If you have books that fit these themes (or any of the titles above) and would like to give them a new life in the hands of young readers, I'd love to hear from you! ❤️

Every donated book will become part of a Story Studio that inspires curiosity, imagination, and a lifelong love of learning.

Want to help your child maintain (or build!) confidence in reading, writing, and math this summer without worksheets taking over your break?

I'm offering a limited number of:

☀️ Private Tutoring Sessions
☀️ Small Group Learning Sessions (2–3 children)

For children ages 5–8 (prek-3rd grade), sessions can focus on:
• Early reading skills
• Reading fluency & comprehension
• Writing
• Math foundations
• Kindergarten readiness
• First grade readiness
• Individual learning goals

My approach is hands-on, engaging, and designed to help children grow while still enjoying summer.

Message me for details or to discuss whether a private or small-group option would be the best fit for your child.
