I posted this on my personal page - and I've received quite a few comments as well as messages. It's touched a nerve in some people. I hope you reach out if you are going through something hard.

I was married to a man who left me in 2021, $160,000 in debt, after we sold all of our (my) assets. Before him, I had a paid for car, my own home and real estate investments. He didn't work, instead, poking me to work harder - calling it working "with me."
I’ve been devastated, overwhelmed, and feeling like crawling underneath my bed. Permanently. But, God.
God has been with me, holding me upright when I didn’t have the strength, and holding my hand when I felt the sunshine on my face after too many tears.
It’s been years of healing from a narcissist. It’s amazing the carnage they leave in their wake.
I know I’m not the only one who’s facing the unthinkable.
The shame I feel is not mine to carry. I did not do this horrible thing to another human. It’s not even in my imagination.
I’m not ashamed. This is where I am, not who I am.
I hope that if you have something you’ve been holding tightly to you, that’s so galling that you can’t stand for the light to touch it, that you’ll reach out to me, or someone else you trust. Don’t suffer alone. Find someone you trust to share the burden with you.
If you are good, if you are decent, if you are trying, reach out.
Why are we ashamed of things that happened to us, while the other person swans off, like nothing happened. Seemingly unscathed. Parting words, “Enjoy your sad, small, little life.”
We all have pain. Life is unjust. It’s just the way it is. I’ll keep pushing through. We all do our best, even when we are facing the bottom of a cliff that we crane our necks and still can’t see the top of.
If you know me, I travel like I read books- voraciously.
I can still read easily, with over 1,100 books on my Kindle and a library card, I’m set, but my wings have been clipped.
This, perhaps, has been the hardest to face. I’ve gotten over the cheating, the mocking deceit, the abandonment. I’m dealing with the financial ruin, but what is it that makes me, “me?” What can I live with, and what can I not face a life without?
Travel is close to me. Important to me. Vital. It’s freedom. It’s knowledge, it’s scratching an itch that nothing else can get to. It’s breath.
From my first trip to Europe with my Nana when I was 9, I’ve hungered and chased after the next trip.
This little challenge has given me an enormous amount of hope.
It’s January 2, 2024. And I haven’t felt this hopeful in years.
Yes. I can do this. It’s not a a month long trip to South America, but I can find some town I’ve never been to, have lunch, wander the streets, take pictures of its architecture, talk with the locals, and smile, the sunshine on my face. I can do that each month, so I have something to look forward to, while I face rock climbing my cliff.
A little wiser; not bitter. Never bitter. But, God.
