Enjoy these Henderson/Heartland band photos from years past! Smorgasbord is the annual band fundraiser dating back to 1956 and has provided many instruments, uniforms, and other items for the band throughout the years.

Each year, Smorgasbord serves almost 1,000 people, with some years well over that amount. That is the size of Henderson!...

Each year, Smorgasbord serves almost 1,000 people, with some years well over that amount. That is the size of Henderson! As you can imagine, it takes a lot of work and coordination to make everything run smoothly, mostly relying on band parents to get the job done. The struggle recently has been that the number of students in band has been slowly declining - in the 80s and 90s, there were up to 125 high school band members. This year? 43. So that's a lot of extra help that we don't have any more!

On Friday, March 6, the verenika committee will be making all 4500 verenika - if you've ever wanted to learn how, or if you like the camaraderie that comes with accomplishing a big task, or if you're simply bored, head on over to the school cafeteria any time after 4:30! It's all very simple, it just takes time.

Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 are go time! Our committee is pretty slim this year, so if you want to help out by peeling potatoes or stirring pluma moos or setting up tables, or anything, really, we would welcome the help! It takes a community to keep a community's tradition alive.

YESTERDAY'S ANSWER: The last time a trophy went to another school was in 1987. Congratulations, Henderson/Heartland on your many years of success in band!

TODAY IS THE DAY! Plan to eat light the rest of the day so you can enjoy all the good food! Reminder: there ARE tickets available at the door this year, so come on by! Leftovers will be available for sale starting around 7 p.m. outside the North Gym.
