🐾 It’s National Dog Day, so we have a very important BU introduction to make.

Meet Daisy, the newest member of Dr. Shannon’s family. 💛

Daisy is a 5-year-old doodle who came to Dr. Shannon through a local doodle rescue and has already settled quite nicely into her new role as beloved baby sister to Charlie.

Her current interests include:

🎾 Chasing tennis balls
🤗 Snuggling
💛 Being extremely lovable
🎾 More tennis balls

We think she’s going to fit in just fine.

Happy National Dog Day to Daisy, Charlie, and all the dogs who make our lives considerably better (and our floors considerably furrier). 🐶

PECS is easy to recognize: pictures, binders, sentence strips, laminated symbols that seem capable of surviving several minor natural disasters.

But the visible materials are only part of the protocol.

One example: in the earliest phase of PECS, the communication partner doesn’t begin by asking, “What do you want?” That seemingly small procedural choice gets at a much bigger behavioral question: What is actually controlling the learner’s response?

In PECS and Functional Communication: A Short Overview and History, PECS co-developer Dr. Andy Bondy explores the thinking behind the protocol, the research that has accumulated around it, and what can change when seemingly minor components are misunderstood, skipped, or replaced.
