Had the joy of leading a masterclass for the theater department at Coronado High School today—and what an inspiring afternoon! I shared a bit about my time on tour, but the real magic happened while working with their incredibly talented young performers. One student had a huge breakthrough that lit up the whole room.✨ ⁣

I usually work with adults, but it was such a gift to spend time with these brave, curious, and creative teens. I even stayed late to answer questions and talk shop. These are the moments that remind me how much I love what I do.⁣

💛🎭🎶 ⁣If you’ve always wanted to sing (at any age!)—I’d love to work with you. 💫⁣

🧠 You are not probably not tone-deaf. 🎶⁣

Tone-deafness is actually a rare neurological condition. What most people experience is simply lack of training—and that’s something you can absolutely work on.⁣

If you’ve ever said, “I can’t sing,” what you probably mean is:⁣
👉 I’ve never learned how to match pitch.⁣
👉 I feel self-conscious using my voice.⁣
👉 Someone made me feel like I wasn’t musical.⁣

None of those things make you tone-deaf. They make you human. And they’re all things you can move through with the right support.⁣

✨ I teach adults who’ve always wanted to sing—but thought they couldn’t. You don’t need “natural talent.” You just need a starting point.⁣

We talk a lot about self-care, but here’s one practice you might be overlooking:⁣

Singing.⁣
Not performing. Not “sounding good.”⁣
Just using your voice.⁣

Whether it’s one note, one line of a song, or a full-on living-room concert — singing can calm your body, quiet your mind, and reconnect you with yourself.⁣

That’s self-care.⁣
And you’re allowed to have it. 💛⁣

✨ Want a safe space to try it?⁣
My Sing to Soothe workshop is a great place to begin. DM me to join the interest list.⁣

💫 You’re not too old. You’re not too late. You’re not tone-deaf. 💫⁣⁣
⁣⁣
You’ve just never had someone show you how your voice works—and how to love it.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I teach adults who thought they’d never be able to sing.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
🎶 It’s not about being naturally gifted—it’s about being brave enough to learn a new skill.⁣⁣

11 years ago today, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and entered one of the darkest and scariest times of my life.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Beating cancer taught me a lot—about strength, about fear, about joy, and about using my voice in every sense of the word.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
One of the greatest joys of my life is that as a singing teacher, I get to help others reclaim their voices. Some of my students are finding the courage to sing for the first time in decades. Some are healing old wounds or silencing old doubts.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
As I discovered during my cancer journey, in life (and in singing!) you don’t need to be fearless to be successful. You just need to be brave enough to show up and keep putting one foot in front of the other.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Here’s to many more years of surviving, singing, and helping others find their sound. 💖⁣⁣

From my performance as “Miss A” in our kindergarten’s production of The Letter People to my senior vocal recital in college, my mom was at every performance. Even after graduation, she and my dad were often in the audipence—flying all the way to Hong Kong to see me sing “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” as the Mother Abbess in The Sound of Music.

Her support has never wavered—through nerves, triumphs, and every note in between. She still gets excited when I have a performance, and that kind of encouragement means everything.

Now, as a voice teacher, I think about how powerful it is to have someone believe in your voice. Some of my students didn’t grow up with that kind of support—but it’s never too late to find it. Sometimes we just need someone to listen, cheer us on, and remind us that we can sing.

Happy Mother’s Day to the one who’s always been in my corner. 💐❤️🎶

“I never thought I could sing…”
I hear that all the time—and I love proving it wrong. 💫

This beautiful testimonial is a reminder that with the right support, technique, and care for your voice, amazing things are possible. You don’t have to be a prodigy or a professional—just someone willing to explore what your voice can do. 🎶💪

I taught my first online student—very reluctantly—in 2017. ⁣

Shari, who had been studying with me for years (and is still working with me today), was spending a year abroad at Oxford and wanted to keep up her lessons. We worked through plenty of tech hiccups, but to our surprise... we loved it. ⁣

In 2019, my entire studio went online when my family sold everything to travel full-time. And by 2020, when the world shut down, we had the process down to a science. ⁣

Now? Even though I can and do teach in person, most of my studio remains online—and here’s why: ⁣

🤧 Germs: Slightly under the weather? We can still meet—no risk of spreading anything. ⁣
❄️ Weather: Snow day? Icy roads? We’re still on. ⁣
⏰ Busy schedules: No commute means less stress for everyone—whether you're at home or on the go. ⁣
🎤 Time zones: I can offer popular evening lesson times to folks on the East Coast and still have dinner with my family. ⁣
🏡 Comfort: Many students feel calmer and more confident singing in their own space. ⁣

Online lessons aren't a backup plan anymore. They’re a beautiful, flexible, and effective way to learn to sing—wherever you are. ⁣
