Presented by the Helena Area Chamber of Commerce and the Helena Independent Record, the 20 Under 40 awards recognize young professionals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and service to the Helena community.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Joy and her spouse came to Helena to attend Carroll College. Although they originally planned to return to Alaska after graduation, they fell in love with Helena and chose to make it home. Today, Joy is the owner of Queen City Framing & Art Supplies, where she champions Montana artists, preserves treasured artwork and memorabilia through custom framing, and creates welcoming spaces for creativity by hosting free community art groups for artists of all skill levels.

We're proud to celebrate Joy's entrepreneurial spirit, creativity, and commitment to strengthening Helena's vibrant arts community. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! 💜💛

A third-generation Helena resident, Emily is dedicated to serving the community she proudly calls home. As the Mayor of Helena and through her work with an education nonprofit supporting Montana's public schools, she is helping strengthen opportunities for future generations. Whether advocating for housing, mental health resources, economic development, or youth engagement, Emily's leadership reflects a deep commitment to making Helena an even better place to live, work, and thrive.

Kayla came to Carroll with plans to become a physician, but her experiences as a student, including helping establish the Peer Advocacy Center through a Culture of Respect grant, inspired a different path. Today, she serves as the Manager of Community-Based and Crisis Care Delivery at St. Peter's Health, where she leads programs that strengthen access to care and improve health outcomes through collaboration and community partnerships.

Congratulations to Carroll College alumnus Brus Layson '14 on being named one of the 2026 Helena 20 Under 40 honorees!

Presented by the Helena Area Chamber of Commerce and the Helena Independent Record, the 20 Under 40 awards recognize young professionals who are making an impact through leadership, innovation, and service to the Helena community.

Brus first came to Helena to attend Carroll College, where he met his wife, Karla, in a philosophy class. After earning his graduate degree in California, the couple returned to Helena to build their lives and careers. Today, Brus is the owner of Advocate Physical Therapy, where he helps patients get back to doing what they love while also teaching advanced treatment techniques to physical therapists and healthcare professionals across the country, with international instruction on the horizon.

We're proud to celebrate Brus' accomplishments and the positive impact he's making in Helena and beyond. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition! 💜💛

It was wonderful to see so many members of the Carroll family and the Helena community gathered together for one of our favorite summer traditions. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, an incredible 15,000 pounds of food was collected for Helena Food Share.💛
