 Fighter pilot friend John Lieberherr is a big advocate of flight suits. This flight suit modeled by my lovely young bride Julie, John nicknamed “Puma” again a story for another time, was the flight suit he wore while flying the A-10 all over the world. So no more shorts Puma!. What an honor.

My fighter pilot friend John “Top-gun” Lieberherr didn’t think it was proper for me to carry a pen light in the p*e pouch of my flight suit. It is designed to carry this special knife to cut a parachute line when it is causing problems. So he gave me his! It has flown with him all over the world. That is him flying the A-10 in the picture here. What an honor.
I gave him the nickname top gun and he is not very happy about it. That’s a story for another time :)

In July 2023, I spent a week with the great Rich Stowell at his Idaho location, west of Boise. Started early each day, but by the end of our fourth flight, the temperature was around 95°. We did about 56 spins that week, and for me, all from the backseat. Only about 6 you could call normal. And with every recovery, Rich would want me to talk through each step. Power, ailerons, rudder, elevator. By the end  of the third, and for sure the fourth flight, that process would be difficult. So I cheated. I wrote it on the back of Rich’s seat. It’s the sleeve that protects the Parachutes when the cushions are removed. He thought it was pretty funny.

And this week I performed my 400th spin. Nothing compared to Rich who is closer to 40,000. 

So excited! Dusty got a bit of a panel upgrade! Thanks to Brandon Janitell at UAvionics and Majesta and her team at Exec/SkyService Helena for all of their fine work. UAvionics adsb in and out plus an AV30 with AV mag and link. So nice. Attitude indicator, Heading Indicator, or MFD with traffic and course. USB charging ports, and so much more. Not sure how I could possibly make this award winning airplane any nicer. Come take a ride with Anna or me. We are open for business 7 days a week.

Congratulations to Jerry Shiner for getting his Emergency Maneuver 1-2-3-4 training, spin endorsement, International Aerobatic Club Primary Patch and a flight review with me in Dusty. Great job Jerry. Jerry is the proud owner of a very nice Cessna 140 which I had the privilege of helping him learn to fly as well as get his tailwheel endorsement in it a few years ago.

Well darn it! Upset prevention, spin and aerobatic student drove to Helena from Butte to put the parachutes on. I thought we might be ok but nope. He did teach me a bit more about ForeFlight weather. I’ll do a better job predicting next time :/

Thanks to all of you who supported me this year. My award just showed up in the mail. Pretty cool addition to the hanger. There will not be a 4th as I will put all my effort and support behind our young CFI’s who I am so privileged to mentor.

We purchased this flight suit at the Kennedy Space Center for big brother and grandson Everett, who passed it down to Archie who is pretty sure he is going to be an astronaut. Just like grandpa Don did. Can you tell them apart?
