🖤 Meet Wendy Kuhn

Next up in our Common Ground instructor introductions: Wendy Kuhn!

Wendy is a black belt from Grove City Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a longtime member of the Air National Guard, and a multiple-time IBJJF Pans & World Master Champion.

And this isn’t a title she earned once and stopped chasing. 👀

Wendy has continued competing and winning through multiple belt levels, including bringing home the gold at Worlds as a black belt. She has years of experience putting her jiu jitsu to the test on some of the biggest competition stages in the sport.

But there’s a lot more to Wendy than medals. She brings a thoughtful, technical approach to the mats and genuinely loves helping other women learn and grow their jiu jitsu. She’s a familiar face at women’s open mats throughout the area, always showing up, taking rounds with everyone, and supporting the growth of women’s jiu jitsu however she can.

🥋 Wendy will be teaching Gi Mount Attack Sequences on Saturday, November 7 at Common Ground.

🥋 Congrats to our newest gray/white belt, Harley!

Harley has put in the time, continued to show up, and kept working to improve when he steps on the mats. It’s been awesome watching all of that consistency add up and seeing how much he’s grown along the way.

This one was well earned. Congratulations, Harley! We’re proud of you and excited to see what comes next!! 👏❤️

🎉Congrats to our crew who competed today in Cincinnati!

We took a small but mighty group out today to get some competition experience and we're so proud of them! All of our competitors today were white belts in the beginning of their journey, and some were even competing for the very first time. We saw some amazing jiu jitsu, tons of growth from the repeat competitors, and some really hard-fought matches with so much heart.

🖤Meet Kaida DeWitt

We’re kicking off our Common Ground instructor introductions with the woman who will get the weekend started Saturday afternoon!

Kaida is a black belt under Nick “Chewy” Albin and Derby City MMA’s first female black belt. She’s also a mom, competitor, and has her doctorate in psychology.

And when we say competitor, we mean it. 👀

Kaida has competed on the professional grappling stage, including PGF Season 4, and later returned to compete for the women’s 125 lb championship at PGF World Season 6.

She’s also an incredible teacher with a knack for taking complicated techniques and making them actually make sense and stick.

Kaida will be teaching No-Gi Takedowns & Sweeps Saturday, November 7 at Common Ground.

👏 Three more well-earned promotions!

Big congratulations to Sean, Jason, and Mitch on earning their next stripes!

These guys have each put in the hours, stayed consistent, kept learning, and continued showing up ready to work. Proud to have all three of you on the mats at OAJJ. Very well deserved, gentlemen. 💪

💪OAJJ, party of 3, earned their spot on the overall podium today.

We are so beyond proud of Collin, Jordan, and Levon for stepping onto the jiu jitsu competition mats for the very first time at the Chewjitsu Boots & Badges tournament.

As a team of three, these guys secured OAJJ second place overall out of over 70 teams.

🏅Levon decided to jump in at the last minute… literally yesterday. He went on to win his Masters Gi division, Adult Gi division, and the Absolute division, earning triple gold and a championship belt. To top it off, he finished as the highest-scoring athlete of the entire tournament out of roughly 150 competitors.

🏅Jordan was an absolute machine, going 7-0 with 7 submissions across two divisions to earn double gold and a championship belt. He also finished 4th overall in the race for top athlete.

🏅Collin showed incredible composure in his first tournament, battling through tough matches and securing a bronze medal with a submission in the final five seconds of one match and a dominant decision win in another.

Shout out to the Chewjitsu team for a really well run competition!! Our team had a lot of fun, matches ran smoothly, the staff was friendly, refs were on point, and we will definitely be back!

💪Onto the next in a couple weeks at Grappling Industries Cincinnati!

🔥🥋Our July Mat Monsters put in the work last month!

These students showed up, trained hard, pushed through challenges and stayed consistent on the mats despite vacation and holiday season!! Great job to each and everyone one of you. Keep that momentum rolling into August!

🥋And rounding out our promotions from the past week… the adult class with FOUR first stripes earned!!

Before anyone points it out… yes, a couple of these “adults” still need rides to class. 😂 Our older teen students often jump right into the adult class and train alongside their parents!

A huge congratulations to Jordan, Levon, Coulter, and Jackson on your well-earned stripes!
