“Happy people aren’t grateful, grateful people are happy.”
I’m not sure where I originally saw that quote at but it stuck out to me big time.
We are all searching for happiness. Some have found it, others are close, and some think they are on their way to finding it but way off course.
I was the third until recently!
Last fall I started getting severe anxiety. I’m talking i couldn’t function. The first time it happened I called my husband and said I need you home right now, I cannot breathe. Luckily we live 5 mins from where he works.
I had no clue what was going on and it didn’t really hit me until the second time it happened a couple weeks later. And the funny thing was, in the moments I wasn’t even stressed so I think that’s why it took me some time to figure out what was going on.
I was totally devastated when I realized what was going on. And it wasn’t because anxiety is a bad thing, it’s because I was a health and fitness coach. I was supposed to put happiness out into the world. I was supposed to help people solve their anxiety but how and the hell was I going to do that when I didn’t even know how to solve my own.
I researched ways to overcome it- healthy diet, fitness, meditation. I was doing all these things. I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me.
But the thing I learned is there was nothing really wrong with me. My body just struggled with dealing. There was a lot of guilt and disappoint buried way down deep. I just needed to spend some time uncovering some things, and that’s what I did.
I won’t say my anxiety is gone totally because earlier this week I had a very overwhelmed and anxious day for no reason at all. And when I look back I think this is something I’ve dealt with for a very long time and never realized it.
So now when the feeling starts coming on I don’t panic (cause a worse reaction), I simply turn internally, focus on any feelings that may be buried causing the anxious feeling, maybe diffuse a little essential oils, and I intentionally work to overcome the feeling.
The number one thing that helps me is remembering what I’m grateful for. I start every morning. It helps me to remember that even when things seem to be going terribly wrong- there’s still good in my life.
I think, actually I know, that this concept has lead me to finding more happiness. A deep happiness inside me that I had been longing for 💗
