“Play is the highest form of research.” — Albert Einstein 🐾✨

And there’s been plenty of “research” happening in our Pre-K room lately!

Our Pets Unit has completely taken over the classroom. 🐶🐱🐹 Children are running their own Pet Rescue, caring for animals, giving baths, completing volunteer jobs, sorting pets, talking about adoption and learning what living things need to be healthy and cared for.

We’ve read Can I Be Your Dog?, explored wild vs. domestic animals, practiced early literacy and math skills, built new vocabulary—and even had a surprise real-life frog investigation! 🐸

What looks like a room full of children playing is actually science, literacy, math, communication, fine-motor development, problem-solving, empathy and cooperation all happening at once.

This is the kind of childhood we want to make room for here—one filled with questions, imagination, meaningful play and a community where children learn with and from each other. 💛

Sometimes the best learning doesn’t look like school at all. 🐾

🎪 They aren’t just attending the carnival… they’re creating it! 🎪

Our school-age kids have taken the lead in planning and building a carnival for our younger children and families—and we couldn’t be prouder of what they’re creating. ❤️

From brainstorming and making supply lists to painting, building, budgeting, testing games and solving problems, this project has brought learning to life.

🎨 Creative Arts — designing & creating
🔢 Math — counting, measuring & budgeting
🔬 STEM — building, testing & problem-solving
📚 Literacy — planning, writing & communicating
🤝 Social-Emotional — teamwork, leadership & responsibility
✋ Physical Development — fine-motor skills & coordination

This is what school-age care can be: a place to create, lead, build friendships, try new things and still have plenty of fun being a kid. 💛

🌱 Three is where so much begins.

At three years old, play is learning.

That magnifying glass is curiosity. 🔎
Digging through sand is problem-solving.
Playing beside a friend is learning to communicate, share, and belong.
Circle time is building language, confidence, and the ability to be part of a group.

And sometimes the biggest accomplishments at three don’t come home on a piece of paper.

It’s “I did it myself!”
It’s making their first school friend.
It’s becoming brave enough to say goodbye at the door.
It’s discovering that school is a place where they are safe, capable, loved, and excited to learn. ❤️

At Wallenpaupack Early Learning Center, we don’t believe in rushing childhood. We believe in making these incredibly important early years count—with hands-on learning, exploration, friendships, caring teachers, and plenty of opportunities to simply be three.

Because they’re only three once.
And this year matters. 🌱

School-age care should be more than just filling the hours before and after school. ❤️

This week our school-age kids tried the naked egg experiment! They started by making their own predictions about what would happen when an egg was left in vinegar, then watched the experiment change over time and recorded what they noticed along the way. 🥚🔬

I love activities like this because the kids are learning without it feeling like another school assignment. They’re asking questions, making predictions, talking about what they see, and figuring things out for themselves.

Summer should absolutely be about having fun and enjoying being a kid, but that doesn’t mean the learning has to stop. We want our school-age kids to have the best of both — time to play, make friends and relax, along with activities that actually interest and challenge them.

And with the school year right around the corner, we’re excited to keep that going before and after school too. 🚌❤️

Some days, it’s the little moments that remind us why we do what we do.

A bucket of chalk, lots of imagination, and children who were so proud of what they created together. ❤️

At Wallenpaupack Early Learning Center, our school-age program is about more than keeping children busy after school. It’s about giving them opportunities to create, collaborate, build confidence, and make memories they’ll talk about long after the chalk washes away.

We are so proud of these amazing kids. 🇺🇸✨

“Sometimes change can be a wonderful thing.” 🌻

Today we discovered just how wonderful change can be as we read “Pete the Cat and the Cool Caterpillar” before exploring a real sunflower. The children used magnifying glasses to investigate its petals, seeds, leaves, and stem, then created their own beautiful sunflower art using real petals and natural materials.

Hands-on experiences like these encourage children to observe closely, ask questions, strengthen fine motor skills, and connect literacy with science in a meaningful way. We believe children learn best when they can read it, explore it, and create it.

Every sunflower—and every child—blooms in its own unique way. 💛

“Every child is an artist.” – Pablo Picasso

This week, our Pre-K 4 classroom was transformed into a Pop-Up Art Gallery, celebrating not just beautiful artwork, but the learning, curiosity, and creativity behind every masterpiece.

Our young artists explored the work of famous artists like Georgia O’Keeffe, Andy Warhol, and Wanda Gág, discovering that art is more than painting a pretty picture. They observed real flowers, experimented with color and shape, practiced careful observation, and learned that every artist has their own unique style.

Throughout the week, our classroom became a place where literacy, science, fine motor development, problem-solving, and self-expression naturally came together through hands-on experiences.

To make our gallery even more meaningful, families were invited to walk through the displays and learn about the developmental skills being built through each project. Every piece of artwork represented much more than creativity—it reflected growing confidence, critical thinking, and a child’s unique perspective.

At Wallenpaupack Early Learning Center, we believe children deserve opportunities to create, explore, wonder, and take pride in their work. Watching their excitement as they shared their gallery with their families was a reminder that meaningful learning leaves a lasting impression.

❤️ Thank you to all of our families who joined us for our Pre-K 4 Pop-Up Art Gallery and celebrated our incredible young artists with us!
