A student talks about her fav work by Charles Price in the “Finding My Way” exhibit at The Lucile Parker Gallery on the Hattiesburg campus of William Carey University.
⬇️ GO SEE THE ART: Abbey Walker went to see “Finding My Way,” an exhibit of work by Charles Price on display through Thursday, Oct 25. Here’s what she said when she got back …
“As I walked into the Lucile Parker Gallery, I felt intimidated and awed, the kind of feeling you get when walking into a quiet church. I am not an artist, or even an art student, but I was able to appreciate each piece in the exhibit.
“The piece I was drawn to the most was called Yellow Dots. At first I was like, okay, these are nicely colored blobs of paint, but as I looked closer I these ‘blobs of paint’ began to look like people. And inside these funny little people were fantastic mish-mashes of color. All the figures were similar on the outside – yellow heads, black bodies with a few appendages. But on the inside, every figure had a unique collage of color and pattern.
“It was the inside that made the figures beautiful and interesting, and I suppose that is comparable to, well, us! We are all similar on the outside, and it’s what’s on the inside that makes us unique or beautiful or, in some people’s case, ugly. Is this what the artist was going for? Probably not. But I think it’s amazing that a painted canvas could inspire these thoughts.
“Go by and visit the exhibit before it’s gone. Taking a quiet moment to think and explore and appreciate what was in front of me was extremely peaceful. And with finals coming up, I think we all could use a moment of peace.”
