🎉 Congratulations to our 11 JP Schools recognized by the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) as Certified World Language Immersion Schools 🌎
This recognition highlights our schools’ commitment to providing high-quality bilingual education and creating opportunities for students to develop skills that prepare them for success in a global society.
Through our language immersion programs, students strengthen their abilities in a second language while continuing to grow in core subjects like language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. These programs also help students celebrate Louisiana’s culture while gaining a deeper appreciation for cultures around the world.
Congratulations to our students, teachers, and school communities on this outstanding achievement!

Valerie Urquia is a 5th grade student at Greenlawn Terrace Elementary School who has been part of the school community since Pre-K. She enjoys the fun activities at school and appreciates how her teachers take the time to explain lessons and encourage students to believe they can be successful.
Her favorite class is ELA because she enjoys reading, learning from different books, and growing her knowledge. Outside of school, Valerie participates in theater with JPAS and had a role in their production of Annie Jr.
Valerie believes doing well in school is important because education helps you reach your goals and follow your dreams. She describes herself as creative, funny, and active. She enjoys singing, acting, dancing, and writing music, and hopes to become an actress, singer, or pop star one day.

McKenzie Esta and Lili Guilbault took the stage at InterAct 2026 in Chicago to share how data can truly empower early childhood educators. In their session, Data That Empowers: Growing Early Childhood Educators with CLASS and More, they highlighted how meaningful growth comes from more than a single tool.
By blending CLASS insights with coaching notes, reflection data, and ongoing observations, their team creates a comprehensive view of each teacher’s practice. This thoughtful approach allows for intentional, tailored professional development that meets educators where they are and supports where they’re going.
The result? Stronger classrooms, more confident teachers, and better outcomes for young children.

Mrs. Hess’s 8th grade science students put their creativity and engineering skills to the test! Students designed and built hurricane shelters while working within material limits and a set budget. Their structures were then put through real world challenges, including:
💨 Wind testing
🌧️ Rain testing
🌊 Flooding simulations
For this activity, students did more than build hurricane shelters. They applied critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration to solve real world problems. Hands-on learning experiences like this help students strengthen problem solving skills, understand engineering concepts, manage resources, and see how classroom lessons connect to the world around them.

Susan Caroline Toso is a 3rd grade ELA teacher at Harold Keller Elementary School. Now in her third year of teaching, Susan says becoming an educator felt natural because of her love for working with children, watching them grow, and coming from a family of teachers. Susan enjoys the relationships she builds with students and the joy they bring to the classroom each day. She says one of the most rewarding parts of teaching is seeing how much students grow academically and personally throughout the year.
The supportive community at Harold Keller motivates Susan each day. She credits her team and school leadership for creating a collaborative environment focused on student success. She hopes her students remember her for encouraging them to work hard, stay motivated, and enjoy learning.
“Watching my students grow and knowing I played a role in their success is what makes teaching so special.” -Susan C. Toso

Amy Ramos is a graduating senior from Thomas Jefferson Academy who described graduation as both exciting and bittersweet. One of her favorite high school memories was winning the spirit point trophy alongside her classmates.
Throughout high school, Amy stayed actively involved as class president, treasurer of the Hispanic Heritage Club, and captain of the varsity soccer team. She also earned an Adobe certification while balancing her academics and leadership roles. Her advice to underclassmen is to take life one day at a time and enjoy every moment along the way.
After graduation, Amy plans to swear into the United States Air Force and attend LSU to major in accounting with hopes of becoming a CPA one day. She would like to thank her teachers, coaches, counselors, friends, and classmates for supporting and encouraging her throughout her journey.
“I am grateful for my teachers, coaches, counselors, and friends for always encouraging me to do my best.” -Amy Ramos
