Hello Arrowhead community.

In a year of an important referendum, Arrowhead leadership is taking an odd path to convince the community of its dedication to public education. On Tuesday, May 21st, they are allowing Turning Point USA to hold an “inaugural meeting”.

TPUSA's values, purpose, and rhetoric are not something we want the Arrowhead brand to be associated with. The reasons for this include that fact that:

The PAC hosts a website that is used to harass educators, this being yet another web site targeting our educators. Just last fall, members of Turning Point assaulted a professor at ASU: https://www.aaup.org/news/attack-asu-professor-new-low

TPUSA's founder and president has been criticised for his anti-LGBTQ and "white nationalist" rhetoric, something that has no place in our school.

They have promoted conspiracies about election fraud and COVID-19.

They are very much against the idea of public schools and are promoting conspiracies about "woke indoctrination".

The Anti-Defamation League's Center for Extremism has documented other incidents related to Turning Point USA on their website: https://www.adl.org/resources/backgrounder/turning-point-usa

Why is this group being allowed to hold a chapter at Arrowhead? What kind of message does this send to educators and parents who send their children to public education? Why is a non-faculty member (Hartland Village Trustee Tom Truttschel) listed as a "faculty advisor"?

Contact Superintendent Conrad Farner and demand this PAC not be allowed to hold a chapter at Arrowhead. There are already clubs for students who want to engage in dialogue and debate around social, political, economic and cultural issues (TARS, Rho Kappa, JSA, Forensics). If students want to create a club around Charlie Kirk's ideas and brand, they can certainly find another location to do that.

Good afternoon Arrowhead community. We have another ban alert! This time, it’s BOOKS. There is nothing more un-American than banning books. It goes against free speech and free thought. The N***s notoriously burned books to control the minds of the German citizenry.

After Menomonee Falls book ban, you knew this would be coming. The WisRed boards all follow the same playbook. The book ban proposal, much like the Falls book ban, uses “obscenity” as a Trojan horse. The board will determine what books are “obscene” and have them removed. Aka, they’ll remove books that hate groups like Moms for Liberty want banned. Speak up! We can’t have book banning normalized. This will directly affect our students as some books targeted could be part of the AP exam curriculum.

It’s important to remember the battle against policy 335 is not over. The board will hold its next policy meeting on June 20th at 6:45 AM. The board will immediately convene into a closed session with legal counsel, then reconvene into an open session.

Keep writing, keep attending the meetings. Keep doing whatever you can do. We can’t let extremism go unchallenged. It amazes me that the WisRed board members and supporters have gone from “bullying is a problem at Arrowhead that admin won’t address” to “suck it up, kid” now that they control the board. Their biggest supporters, Lake Country Patriots have said these exact words.

We can’t let bullying and intimidation be normalized in our community. All kids deserve to feel safe and supported. It’s impossible to completely stop bullying. But we should never be supporting it. Ever.

Let them know that policy 335 was not written to address, and will not solve, any real problems Arrowhead has. It will only further divide and exclude. It will take up time that could be used to conduct normal business. It will further isolate Arrowhead from potential students that may open enroll. Not to mention it could open Arrowhead up to legal action.

As previously mentioned, instead of facing real issues at Arrowhead, Chris Farris is focused on banning. This is complete nonsense. If you ask any student at Arrowhead they would tell you they are not bothered by rainbows or signs saying “safe space for all”. This is a pet project of his. On June 8th this will be in the policy meeting. Attend this meeting and email the board members letting them know they need to stop wasting their time and taxpayer money on bans.

Arrowhead School Board's policy committee will take up a proposal June 8 that would prohibit "flags, signs and divisive propoganda."

While running for the board, one of the biggest points I tried to make was the obsessive focus on bans were wasteful and hurtful. Well, one month post election and the ban obsession is back again. Policy 335 is their answer to the “many” concerned parents who have worries about rainbows being banned the classroom? I’d be interested in knowing what that number really is. My favorite part is where it says “as all areas of AHS are, and should be considered safe spaces”. Yet, the kids that will suffer from this policy are the same ones that have been personally coming to the board meetings telling them they do NOT feel safe mainly due to policies like this one. Instead of giving lip service in response, maybe they should try discontinuing the introduction of divisive policies like this one.

If you think this policy is divisive and more wasted time, let them know.

DRAFT POLICY 335: CONTROVERSIAL TOPICS, INCLUSIVITY AND SIGNAGE

Public school safety and the feeling of belonging are important aspects in the lives of all students and all backgrounds at Arrowhead Union High School. Specifying certain areas as safe zones for some, as well as signage that promotes one group over others, can create a feeling of isolation, division, and estrangement. This can also create the sense that all areas of our school are not equal, with some areas being safer or more tolerant than others.

In the efforts to create safe, even, and fair environments for the academic achievement of all students, no signage, or other wording implying that a certain area is a "safe space" (or anything similar to this) are permitted, as all areas of AHS are, and should be considered safe spaces.

Additionally, any flags, signage, stickers or similar item for display denoting a division of race, ideology, sexual orientation, gender preference, or political affiliations are not permitted to be displayed in any room, hall, office, classroom, any part of the learning environment, buildings, or school grounds. This ban does include, but is not limited to: Flags of any kind (excluding the American flag and any iteration thereof, excluding the Wisconsin state flag, and excluding any flag specific to a foreign language being taught in that room), race dividing signage (such as: Black Lives Matter or anything denoting one specific race), anti racist classroom notations, rainbows, or any signage of any type promoting a sexual or gender preference, political signage promoting one party or candidate over another.

(This policy does not include or encompass any student attire or any student owned items or vehicles {as long as clothing is not in conflict with the AHS dress code}).

If you haven’t already seen (or heard) about the Merton school board meeting the other night, here is some video. Ali Schweitzer is a right wing “activist” who has very close ties with the WisRed candidates in Lake Country. This is the type of person that wants access to your school’s curriculum so she can twist it and bend it into something it is not. Not to mention, she is trying to defend Merton Board member Troy Andersen’s numerous misogynistic social media posts that got him censured before this happened. These are the kinds of people we need to defend our schools from.

Hi everyone. I’ve decided to keep my page open and rename it. It gives us a good platform to discuss important issues at Arrowhead.

News regarding class offerings came in from Arrowhead today. One of the most popular courses for Freshmen and Sophomores alike, Enriched Social Studies and English, is not being offered due to budget cuts. I know my son has loved being in this class as a Sophomore as it is more interesting than regular social studies but not as demanding as the AP course offerings.

Years of neglect of our public schools is coming home to roost. Our students will be the ones that suffer as their class choices shrink. We need legislators that want to see the Wisconsin public education system thrive.
