🤟💙💛 Join us for our Deaf Awareness Month Celebration - in person OR by Zoom! 💛💙🤟

The CT State Northwestern ASL Club + Interpreter Training Program invites students, families, community members, interpreters, ASL learners, and friends to celebrate Deaf culture, community, language, connection, and shared experiences.

Can’t make it to Winsted? Join us by Zoom! We want this celebration to be accessible to community members near and far.

🎨 SPECIAL ACTIVITY: PAINT PARTY WITH JAMEEN BLIZZARD!

We will also have limited seats available for a paint party with Jameen Blizzard! Space will be limited, so keep an eye out for additional information about participation and registration. More details coming soon!

The American School for the Deaf (ASD) and Mystic Aquarium are proud to come together to host Deaf Awareness Day on Sunday, September 13th - a special day of discovery, connection, and celebration honoring the Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and DeafBlind communities.

Guests of all ages are invited to explore the Aquarium through accessible programming, ASL interpretation, and interactive experiences that celebrate Deaf culture and language while bringing people together through the wonders of marine life.

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy:
* Walking ASL Classes throughout the Aquarium
* ASL Story Time for families
* The first-ever California Sea Lion Show with live ASL and video
interpretation
* A live interactive Beluga Count feed connecting guests with
researchers in Alaska
* ASD Student Ambassadors working alongside Mystic Aquarium
docents
* Community resource tables featuring organizations serving
Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard-of-Hearing individuals and families
* The unveiling of select exhibits featuring ASL-accessible content
through QR codes, with videos created by ASD staff and
students

* Atomic Hands Dive Experience in ASL with Deaf marine
biologist, Dr. Barbara Spiecker!

ASL interpreters will be provided by the American School for the Deaf, and all Deaf Awareness Day activities are included with general Aquarium admission.

Whether you are a member of the Deaf community, learning ASL, visiting with family and friends, or simply looking for a fun and meaningful day at the Aquarium, we hope you’ll join ASD and Mystic Aquarium for this special celebration of language, accessibility, community, and marine life.
