The CT Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's 2025 Family Violence Report reminds us that family violence continues to impact individuals and families across our state. While the report highlights the importance of prevention and support, it’s also important for Connecticut workers to know about the workplace protections and benefits available to them.

If you need time away from work because you are experiencing family violence or sexual assault, the Connecticut Family Violence Leave Act provides eligible employees with job-protected leave for qualifying reasons. If you work for an employer covered by CT Paid Leave, you may also be eligible for income replacement benefits while taking approved leave under this law.

CT Paid Leave is searching for a Digital Media Accessibility & Digital Operations Specialist who will report to the agency's IT Delivery Manager. The Digital Media Accessibility & Digital Operations Specialist will maintain and enhance the CT Paid Leave website by ensuring that all content—both their own updates and updates created by other contributors—meets WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.

They will also validate new Sitecore components are accessible, functional, and compliant by extensively testing prior to go-live approval and smoke testing after production releases. Supporting the IT Solutions Manager with developing and implementing accessibility compliance processes will be an initial priority. They will collaborate with external partners to identify and support documentation needs and will coach CT Paid Leave staff on accessibility remediation and operational processes that keep digital systems running smoothly.

As the FIFA World Cup heads into its final matches, one statistic off the field deserves just as much attention: the United States is the only World Cup host nation without a national paid leave policy.

While there's still no federal paid leave program, Connecticut families have access to paid leave benefits through CT Paid Leave. Eligible workers can take paid leave to recover from childbirth, bond with a new child, or care for a loved one - because welcoming a new family member shouldn't mean choosing between your health and your paycheck.
