Unit Commitment to Diversity –
The School of Education recognizes differences among groups of people and individuals based on ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status, gender, exceptionalities, language, religion, sexual orientation, and geographical area. The unit designs, implements, and evaluates curriculum and provides experiences for candidates to acquire and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professional dispositions necessary to help all students learn. Assessments indicate that candidates can demonstrate and apply proficiencies related to diversity. Experiences provided for candidates include working with diverse populations, including higher education and K-12 school faculty, candidates, and students in K-12 schools.

🌟Student Spotlight🌟

Meet Gerald Branham.

He is passionate about serving the people of Appalachia. That's what led him to LMU's Master of Education in Teacher Licensure program, where he's continuing to grow as an educator while preparing to make a positive impact on the students and communities he serves.

Throughout the program, Gerald has explored areas of education he might not have otherwise considered, gaining new strategies and resources while developing a deeper understanding that every child learns differently and the importance of meeting each student where they are.

His advice? Get involved, stay involved, and keep an open mind. Some of the best learning comes from hearing different perspectives and sharing experiences with others.

Educators like Gerald are helping shape a brighter future for the communities they serve. Keep up the great work!

🌟Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Jane Blair Laoo🌟

Now in her second year at LMU, Dr. Laoo is living what she describes as a dream come true, teaching in the doctoral program and mentoring future educational leaders. She values LMU's strong sense of community, where students are known, supported, and challenged to grow.

Dr. Laoo is passionate about helping candidates transform their research into meaningful impact while growing as scholars and professionals. Her advice to future educators is simple but powerful: build relationships, stay teachable, protect your integrity, and never underestimate the difference you can make in a student's life.

When she's not exploring conspiracy theories, Dr. Laoo is quick to point to her greatest accomplishment, her family. Over 27 years of marriage, she and her husband have raised three children and achieved their doctorates together. For Dr. Laoo, no professional milestone compares to the pride she feels in the life they've built.

We are so grateful to have Dr. Laoo as part of our team!💙

The Opening Event was more than an introduction to the semester, it was an opportunity for students to connect with one another, engage with faculty, and begin the journey toward making a lasting difference in schools and communities.

We were excited to welcome our newest EdD students and invite current students back to connect with the incoming cohort and share advice, encouragement, and lessons learned from their own doctoral journeys.
