Our 3rd grade scientists studied states of matter last week and built film canister rockets to demonstrate states of matter and gas pressure. Combining a solid (Alka-Seltzer tablet) and a liquid (water) inside a sealed plastic canister creates a gas (carbon dioxide). As the gas builds up, pressure forces the lid off and launches the canister into the air. What a fun, hands on way to experience all 3 states of matter!
