Black Walnut Dye summer camp week was a success! The kids made the dye themselves, from start to finish. They collected the walnuts from the forest of , smashed them open with rocks from the creek, and collected water from the creek to add to the dye pot. We dyed t-shirts and wooden beads to make necklaces. It’s so fun to see what children are capable of, when you let them take the lead.

🚨 PRICE DROP! 🚨
We’ve listened to the community’s feedback on our pricing, and want to make sure that our camps are accessible (while maintaining the ability to pay our staff a living wage as well as other expenses associated with directing a summer camp).
We’ve dropped the price of our summer camps by $75 (making the total cost cheaper than last year!), and are still offering a sibling discount. If you’ve already registered, we’ll be in touch by email to discuss your remaining balance due, or a refund if you’ve already paid in full.
If you have any questions about registration, please send me a message or email [email protected]

We had quite a few dead branches cut out of one of our maple trees yesterday, and we had fun putting together this basket of scraps from the process! This basket will get turned into loose parts for creative play. Being outside, we’re always surrounded by loose parts, but it’s nice to be more intentional about it, too! 🍁
Loose parts are any collection of open-ended objects that children can move, combine, transform, take apart, redesign, and line up, in ways that support, extend, and further their ideas while playing. They can be anything from natural objects like sicks and stones to materials such as buttons or bottle caps, to household items like spoons and scarves. The key defining factor is that there is no predetermined use or function. Loose parts are open to a child’s interpretation and creative thinking. A loose part can become anything!
Loose parts are “a catalyst for children’s big ideas, and they provide much practice in ‘making one thing stand for another,’ otherwise known as representational or symbolic play.” -Susan Stacey, Inquiry-Based Early Learning Environments
