The Center for Discovery

The Center for Discovery At The Center for Discovery, people with disabilities work hard to find a way forward as they shape lives of meaning. What happens here matters everywhere.

We are changing the way autism and other complex medical conditions are treated, by way of residential, medical, clinical, vocational, & special education programs. The supports we offer are grounded in the land and our community of care and education, which for many years has integrated food and farming, science and research, and health and wellness. We are a vibrantly successful program that enc

ourages people with intellectual and physical challenges to defy expectations, while simultaneously evolving new models for living.

Coming together for a shared mission – food, health, & community.

We were proud to host Sullivan 180 at the Big Barn for their event, An Evening with Ann Cooper: A Conversation with Chef Ann Foundation. The conversation focused on the power of fresh, scratch-cooked food to support children’s health and well-being - a philosophy that deeply aligns with our work here at . Sullivan 180 is doing incredible work advancing the health and well-being of communities across Sullivan County and we’re thrilled to stand right beside them in a shared effort.

Thank you to Sullivan 180 and Chef Ann Foundation for a wonderful evening!

Led by Horticulturist Jenna Denesewich, our South Campus has been transformed by several healing gardens that allow students in our program to learn about nature as well as explore, reflect, and enjoy the gardens through hands-on activities such as watering, planting, identifying flowers, and making bouquets.

These gorgeous spaces are made possible through the generous support of grants from Sullivan 180 and Wild Ones Mid-Hudson Valley. Thank you for helping us further enrich our South Campus and the minds of our students!

6: Evidence-Based Education & Treatment (our last pillar)

Evidence-Based Education & Treatment underpins every element of the SynergE6 Healthspan Model. Everything we do at The Center is evidence-based and data-driven, allowing our teams to track each individual’s experiences and progress over time and continually inform their care and treatment.

We also collaborate with organizations and individuals in our community and around the world to share what we’ve learned, advance the understanding of complex conditions, and help bring this comprehensive model of care to others.

Together, all six elements of SynergE6 work in concert to support the whole person—creating a model of care that continues to evolve through evidence, experience, and discovery.

Another great day of cheering on the Yankees!

Several TCFD students and residents enjoyed an exciting game between the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners at Yankee stadium. Win or lose, our students had fun and made great memories!

A special thank you to Friends of Will for making this experience possible, and to the New York Yankees for their generous donation of tickets!

Thrilled to see our new Discovery School of the Arts (DSA) featured in the Democrat! Located in the heart of Hurleyville, DSA places creativity at the center of learning, integrating music, drama, visual art, dance, and movement throughout the school day. The arts have always been an integral part of what we do here at , and we love seeing them take center stage in this new school program.

Thank you to the Sullivan County Democrat for visiting and sharing a look inside this special new program!

Our brains are complex, and learning to manage emotions is an important part of development. Practicing self-regulation skills is not only vital, but can also be an enjoyable and positive experience!

At the Center, our multidisciplinary teams use a variety of strategies to teach emotional regulation and coping skills. Our extensive social-emotional curriculum featuring the Zones of Regulation program is utilized across programs. Learning to manage stress and emotions can be fun too! We teach key skills like communication, understanding emotions, breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and empathy through highly engaging activities including music, drama, art, yoga, interactions with animals, and even baby goat yoga!
