Somewhere deep in the universe, humanity may be watching a planet die in real time.
Its name is WASP-12b.
And every second that passes may bring it closer to destruction.
When astronomers first discovered this world, it already looked extreme. WASP-12b is a giant gas planet orbiting incredibly close to its parent star — far closer than Mercury is to our Sun.
