Nicole Livas

cole spent several years as an evening anchor at WAVY-TV & WVBT-TV in Norfolk. She also worked at TV stations in Rhode Island (WJAR) and Ohio (WKBN). Nicole is an Emmy-nominated multimedia journalist. She has covered the September 11th terror attacks and the Virginia Tech shootings. She was one of the first reporters on the scene following the JFK, Jr. plane crash off Martha’s Vineyard. She also reported feature stories involving high school football, NCAA basketball, entertainment, and lifestyle news. Several times, Nicole was voted best female newscaster by Coastal Virginia Magazine’s readers. She’s been recognized by the Virginia Association of Broadcasters and The Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals. Nicole serves on the Samaritan House and the Society of Professional Journalists, Virginia chapter boards. She also serves on the advisory board for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at her alma mater, George Mason University. She is most proud of taking a leap of faith when she was pregnant with her daughter in 2016 and leaving her career to care for her full-time during her first few years of life. Nicole is a Virginia Beach native who comes from a family of local educators and pioneers. Her mother, Becky Livas, was Hampton Roads's first African-American female TV newscaster. She hosted several shows on WTAR-TV (Now WTKR). Becky went on to teach history and geography and retired from Suffolk Public Schools. Now, she devotes much of her time to her passion for singing. Nicole's late father, Henry, was a retired NASA-Langley engineer and served on the Virginia Beach Planning Commission. Her grandfather, Henry Livas, Sr., taught architecture at Hampton University and founded The Livas Group Architects, P.C., which still exists in downtown Norfolk. Her grandfather, John L. Perry, taught high school physics and was the first African-American City Councilman in Virginia Beach. Both grandmothers were teachers. Nicole has a sister and two brothers. Nicole spends her free time in the yoga studio and coffee shop, walking around town, supporting local businesses, and hanging out with family and friends.
