A message for those who need it:
While Christmas outside looks so merry and bright,
Some people at Christmas do not feel so light,
The carols repeated again and again,
Can cause people joy and cause people pain.
As the days grow darker and nights grow longer,
Depression and anxiety grow louder and stronger,
The Christmas season emerges proudly and huge,
And separates us into the Elves and the Scrooge.
And what these 'Ebenezers' would often give,
To see just how the other half live,
To feel happy at Christmas to be festive and glad,
And forget for a moment that things feel so bad.
December brings warmth, family and friends,
Or reminders of loss and a need to pretend,
Mulled wine, presents and jokes that are funny,
Or social anxiety and worries about money.
If you are someone who when advent begins,
Feels feelings you don't wish to feel from within,
Just know that when Christmas is feeling so tough,
Doing your best is more than enough.
Please look after those around you this Christmas. You never know what someone is going through. Show kindness, show patience and keep your mind open.
