Thank you Dr. Waleed Zaid!!

Dr. Waleed Zaid graduated from Ajman University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Dentistry in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2003. Following dental school, he interned in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the UAE Ministry of Health in Dubai. From 2005-2006 he was an oral and maxillofacial surgery demonstrator at Ajman University and from 2006-2008 he trained in oral and maxillofacial surgery at Al-Qassimi Hospital. He attended the oral and maxillofacial surgery residency at McGill University Faculty of Dentistry from 2008-2012; he then trained for an additional year in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction at the Boston Medical Center. In 2012 Dr. Zaid was awarded a master’s in oral and maxillofacial surgery for his thesis “In Vitro Effects of Bisphosphonates on Oral Squamous-Cell Carcinoma BHY Cells and BHY-Induced Osteoclasts.”

Dr. John Barksdale is a graduate of LSU School of Dentistry. He is a General Dentist and maintains a full time Implant and Restorative practice in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Dr. Barksdale completed a two-year practicing residency in surgical and prosthetics at the Misch International Implant Institute along with advanced bone grafting and soft tissue management.

LSUHSC Open House was a Success! Thank you for the invitation to be part of impactful day of learning all the health career departments for undergraduates.

This is a testament to the effectiveness of our programs. A dedicated student, who has participated in the majority of AHEC pipeline initiatives, including Day with Doctors, Day with Physical Therapy, and AHEC Scholars, and consistently volunteered at our events for four years, is now attending an Open House as part of their medical school application process. This success underscores the impact of SELAHEC's efforts.

Bloodborne Pathogen Training at Nunez Community College Day One…is designed to educate individuals who may be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM) as part of their work or studies. The training aims to ensure compliance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standards.

Day Three of the Conference …what a way to end! Professional Wellness CMEs for Primary Care MDs to Social Workers in Rural and Underserved Areas of Louisiana. Then seeing a MD we assisted to starting a rural FQHC 20 years ago! AHEC is the Best!
