We had a great visit with Steve Large, Assistant Vice President from the Miami University Wellness Services that is based at Miami University, Oxford.

Steve spent time with our students talking about health and wellness, college life, and the mental health resources available on college campuses.

One of the best parts of the visit was seeing how Steve met our students where they were at. He took the time to sit down, listen, answer questions, and really get to know them. Our students were heard, welcomed, and comfortable having an honest conversation about health and wellness.

Steve also gave students a glimpse into what he does day-to-day and how his work helps support college students. It was a great opportunity for our students to see that asking for help and taking care of yourself are important parts of the college experience.

A HUGE thank you to Steve for spending time with our Upward Bound students and creating such a welcoming space for conversation!

Last week, we had a great time welcoming Jude Johnson from the City Of Cincinnati Government to Upward Bound!

Jude gave us an inside look at what it’s like to work for the City of Cincinnati and shared some of the different career opportunities students might not always think about; including careers in Human Resources!

It was a great reminder that there are SO many different career paths out there, and the skills you build now can open doors to opportunities you may not have even considered yet!

A HUGE thank you to Jude for spending time with our students, answering questions, and making the presentation both informative and fun!

What a great day! We started out with a beautiful campus tour and presentation at Washington University in St. Louis. Then we went to the Old courthouse within the Gateway Arch National Park and participated in a mock trial about women's right to vote. The students did an incredible job! After that, we went to eat at the Arch Cafe and went through the Arch museum. Then we took some pictures of the group under the arch on the way to our cruise along the Mississippi River provided by Riverboats at the Gateway Arch. We learned about some of the buildings and history while we slowly cruised along. We had dinner at Sugarfire Smoke House. A lot of the students said it was some of the best barbecue they have ever had!! Finally, we ended the day at the Missouri Botanical Garden. It was really beautiful seeing the sculptures come to life with light as we walked around. What a fun day but we are all exhausted!

What an incredible second day! We started the day with a presentation from the Trio representative from Trio Student Support Service, an admissions talk, and a housing tour from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Then we are some really good burgers from Hi Pointe Drive In. We ended our day enjoying the Saint Louis Zoo. We came back to the hotel for a night of pizza and our pool party.

We had a great first day of The Big Summer Road Trip! First, we visited Indiana State University for a college admissions presentation and campus tour. Then we were off to the City Museum, St Louis, MO where we had a really fun time sliding down sides, climbing through narrow passages, and finding unique treasures throughout the museum. We are now at the hotel enjoying some time in the pool and relaxing.

Upward Bound students recently had the opportunity to learn about networking and civic engagement with Citizen of the Year Tyler McCleary of COhatch Hamilton. Students toured the space before participating in an Elected Officials Panel featuring Hamilton City School District Board of Education member Dave Davidson, Judge Jennifer McElfresh of the Butler County Court of Common Pleas, and Hamilton City Council member Susan Vaughn.

What a powerful day of learning with—and about—the leaders who serve our community!
