This crew of Brookwood students and alumni worked hard weeding the garden today. The radishes are ready to harvest. Feel free to stop by and grab some. They are located right next to the green onions in each bed. Look for the radish "shoulders" sticking out of the ground. Those are the ones that are ready.. The rest of the salad will be ready to harvest in about a month.

The Secret Salad Seeds are growing at both Brookwood and Highland school gardens. For anyone who wants to visit the gardens to observe (in a careful, socially distanced way) over the next few months, feel free. If you'd like to use the clues from the plants to figure out the Secret Salad Seeds, I'm attaching the slideshow to introduce the plan to kids, and a printable journal to record observations. Message us with any questions. Here we grow!

The "secret salad seeds" have been planted! Thanks to my helpers that prepped the beds, and thanks to the 3rd and 6th grade students at Brookwood who helped with the planting. We are excited to help Highland Elementary get some secret salad seeds growing in their garden too! Not sure what the rest of the school year looks like at this point, but the school gardens might be a fun outing in the near future. Here we grow again!

These 6th graders planted these flower seeds last spring as 5th graders! They grow up so fast!

Hello and Happy Summer to All!

Many of the salad greens that we planted in spring are still growing! There is lettuce, kale, beets, and green onions ready to harvest. Feel free to stop by and harvest a salad for yourself.

If you have a few minutes to pull some weeds (mostly grasses and clover growing in the beds), that would be GREAT! Just throw weeds in the "yard" to be composted by the lawn mower :).

*Stop by the garden Monday, June 17th from 8:15-9:15am to learn how to harvest and care for the garden.

To harvest - You'll need a container/bag and some scissors. Harvest just the leaves and not the whole plant, and the garden will continue to grow and produce food all summer.

Here is how to harvest the food:

It was a great week in the garden! After observing the plants, 5th graders and their kindergarten buddies drew with sidewalk chalk together. We all loved the fresh air!!!
