WCPESO: Origins

About two years ago, a small group of concerned parents, students, and educators founded the Washington County Parent Teacher Student Organization with the intention of engaging in hands-on advocacy for children and public education at a county-wide level, with the representation of schools and communities from across Washington County. After a year, we changed the name to be more inclusive of the Educational Support Personnel staff, and we became the Washington County Parent Educator Student Organization. We do not engage in fundraising, nor do we collect dues. We value the student's voice. We believe that when parents, educators, and students come together to advocate, positive change is possible. We have been active in our advocacy by attending Board of Education meetings and County Commissioner meetings. If you are tired of fundraising and want to try a different type of advocacy, then this group might be for you. This is a great parent/student activity to engage in. We meet once a month in a safe and confidential space, sometimes in different parts of Washington County. Please join us. We are stronger together, and together we can create the schools that students, staff, and our community deserves.
