Each graduate has done three rotations around different departments of the hospital, gaining both work and life skills.

Antonio is the newest intern of the month for April! 🏆this last rotation has resulted in increased independence, a sense of responsibility, and improved communication skills! He is rocking it delivering linens and stocking all of the linen carts throughout the hospital

Transition Week, Day 5: Part two…Lunch ‘N Bowl at Cypress Lanes. One of our favorite curriculum units was Health and Wellness. Today we focused on Leisure Activities and although none of us are ready to go Pro, we had so many genuine laughs, encouraging high fives, and lots of good old fashioned fun. Between BLT’s, chicken wraps, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, fish baskets and all the delicious fries and onion rings we left with full stomachs and full hearts 💜Thank you Daryl and your team for having us!

Transition Week Day 5, Part 1: First Stop, drop medical supplies from the hospital off for the veterinarians at the Humane Society. Second Stop, filling the lobby with donations from my ladies group. Third stop, snuggling puppies and kittens. Fourth and final stop, helping create some enrichment activities for our four-legged, furry friends. J. Allen Toyota interns were able to join us and together they volunteered their time and energy creating engaging and rewarding activities for the animals. Thank you Anna at HSSM for hosting us!

Day 4 of transition week…we practiced our communication skills, financial literacy, and treated ourselves to a little entertainment after 10 weeks of working hard. We are fortunate to be within walking distance of Cinemark and with the support of Campus Police can safely navigate across a busy road to get there.

Day three of transition week started with a business advisory meeting and ended with manager and mentor interviews. New rotations start Monday. Ryan is excited to learn infection prevention, sanitation, and proper usage of PPE in Wound Care. Hayjara is looking forward to furthering her computer skills and patient interaction in Clinical Data Management. Kassandra will be learning all of the duties of a pharmacy technician and will be interning in the in-patient pharmacy. Antonio is going to learn how to organize and stock all the various linen carts throughout the hospital. Damien will be pulling dual duty, stocking supply closets and intending as a trash tech. Thank you to all the managers and mentors who continue to pour their knowledge and expertise into the interns. They are all growing in independence, self-confidence, and communication skills!
